I turned on my ps3 this morning (it was working last night), and the screen wont display. My TV works fine (all normal channels, digital etc.). I can still hear the playstation turning on, and I can hear it if I scroll across the menus, so I know its working. I tried to connect the HDMI cable into the second point on my TV but it had the same effect, so im sure its not the TV. I tried turning the ps3 on and off, turning it on and holding the button until it beeped again but nothing worked. After that, I tried the standard definition cables, and they worked fine. So now im wondering if the problem is most likely my HDMI cable? or if its my ps3 connection point?
If you have some other component that uses HDMI, test with that...otherwise, the cheapest test would be a new HDMI cable; you can get them for dirt cheap these days.
If you have the standard definition cables, hook those up and try going into the settings and changing the video/audio output to HDMI on the PS3. Then hook up the HDMI and see if that works. I had to reset my PS3 that way a couple of times.

Hey i have a similar strange video output problem on a 120GB slim i bought lt as is it gives no audio or video just black screen white stripes on the standard AV cables ( yellow, white red) it came with but oddly enough it does play using a HDMI cable but only at 480presolution and 4:3 not 16:9? Ive tested all the cables on around 4 other slims and its definitely not the cables or the TV. My TV can handle up to 1080p on HDMI but the system seems "stuck" on that video setting ive tried switching it on the display menu but it goes black then 30 secs later reverts to the 480p. Weird problem right. Ive tried updating the sytem that didnt do anything.
