Israel explains iPad ban

On Thursday we reported that the Israeli newspaper Haaretz had reported that the Apple iPad has been blocked from entering Israel, with customs officials confiscating all devices upon entry.
Today, the Israeli Ministry of Communications has elaborated on their reasoning behind the ban.

Can you please back up these statements where you say the Israeli government does not care about human life? From my standpoint (I have been to Israel twice), the government is protecting the lives of millions of Jews (and some muslims, christians) every day with their actions.
I do not know where you live Shaf, but remind me the last time your next door neighboring country threatened to nuke you off the planet once they are finished creating nuclear arms.
As for boycotting the Israeli government? Why? We don't boycott France or England, why is Israel any worse? (They aren't)
They are when we are giving them millions and millions to keep holding back the horde....... we should focus more on our own damn country for a few decades before our system collapses....oh wait....too late.... its already stared...

But really tho...the US puts out billions a year to go to everywhere while we are losing jobs and the common worker is gaining less and less money thus over all less taxes paid....... the US needs to stop the hands out and work on itself before it falls apart.....

People on this site put my country down all the time... sometimes it's warranted, often not but I don't go all bombastic over it.

"The Satmar Hasidic movement has become known for its social isolation from all forms of secular culture and for its opposition to all forms of religious, secular, and political Zionism"
but these are very discrete and dwindled groups that comprise of less than 130k worldwide.
so no israel does not represent all jews, but it does represent the majority of them.

Although this may be offensive for you, they did not break any rules. As long as you don't go over the line there is freedom of speech here. Although their way of thinking bothers you I am sure you are just as offensive to them. Should you be banned?
I suspect there is a suspicion that there may be Trojans in the devices and they prefer to be safe than sorry. Trojans apps are being found in Chinese goods at an increasing rate.

People should not bring iPad into Isreal. People should not bring weapons into Mexico. Man should not bring 13 year old wife purchased in foreign country into the United States. Each country can set the rules which a citizen or visitor should follow.

Rofl, I must admit I still find that notion laughable. And I by no means am a Apple believer.
I reckon Mez got it right... I reckon they want to investigate it for Chinese trogans/spyware first. That has become a real problem... see above.
Either that or they are under pressure to protect the advertising revenue of local publications.

The Chinese are far more blatant than those articles. Chipods have been infected for years with Trojans that will load key logging software to the computer. They are a great bargain since they die shortly after they infect your computer. All the Seagate drives coming out of China had Trojans in the boot sector. All aimed at identity theft.
A CIA agent swapped a chip in a printer at a French printer factory. The chip had a nasty virus that was to be attached to the Iraqi defense mainframe. It brought down the mainframe right before the Desert Storm attack (the first war). The virus made bogies appear on the radar screen a few hrs before the real attack began. There were reports of them shooting into the air at nothing just before the real attack began. It took them a few minutes before they realized the attack was real. By that time their radar had been blown up.
This is not something to take lightly.

The iPad is an iPhone for the sight impaired. Users need to purchase the optional iShirt with iPockets for their iPad. Apple needs an integrated solar panel to recharge battery at night using just the light from the stars or moon.

Did you see the bit where executives and such are now taking the batteries out of their devices before meetings? If your device has a camera they can even spy on you with that... And what about the attacks on Google Gmail... and the congressional inquires into all this?

Well, I go to a reasonable amount of effort to keep things clean. Spybot just reported all a-ok. Recently got rid of the Chrome browser because I found it kept loading up Spyware, i.e. DoubleClick, which I found out Google now own!
Still I suppose you never know... do all my shopping in YourBumToo Linux on the netbook now.

I thought you could not get a computer virus unless you powered the computer on. I was wrong. I never considered Seagate would install a computer virus on the harddrive and ship them to customers. When you make something idiot proof someone will come up with a better idiot.

Maybe... but in reality it's the outsourced manufactures who have breached their contract and the law. And the argument here is that you can trace it back to the Chinese government!
