I think some users could use a little advice about dvd media. I sell the stuff for a living so I have insights to pass on. Most blank media will burn no problem, what speed & how long will they work are two key questions. When you buy cheap you pay for what you get. There is a flood of cheap media out there, stay away. One new brand worthwhile checking out is Legacy. They use Sony OEM for -4x and Ritek -rw/+r/+rw/ Depending on where you get them they can be a very good buy. In the States Newegg sells them. Actually there are some pretty good reviews at their site.

Thank God you're here to save us all!
No email addies allowed, chief. There are plenty of good links for buying Riteks all over this forum already.

Legacy is a good disc you say?
lol - I think that most of us here know what good media is and what isnt good media. I for one know a lot about Media, and if you sell them, then what is your company name and where is your store. If you are just one of the many people who've bought something in bulk and are now trying to sell it, then good luck to you on it, but the rest of us prefer to use reputable dealers, like these ones in the UK:

lol hey bud. Someone needs to tell u all what the reality is ... I've been selling media since the early days of 5 1/4 floppies. How long you been saving files on anything ? & NO I personally am not trying to sell anything. I don't sell to end users, I represent several well known manufactures and I sell strictly to retailers and independent dealers mostly in Canada & a bit in the States. There are only a few good manufactures out there, Ritek absolutely is one of the top, CMC these days is putting out some good product, so is Prodisc. But there are many smaller Chinese companies putting out some pretty bad stuff under various unknown brands and or no name generics. All I was saying " for the money Legacy is a very good option." If you havent tried the new Sony OEM under Legacy label then do so. In the States a good national source to buy from nationally is www.newegg.com - at their site was posted end user review most all of which rated Legacy 4x-r @ 4 stars. All Im doing is trying to shed a bit of light on this topic.

Gonna make a lot of friends here! Start off calling us ignorant and then you want us to take your advice?

Hopefully you use better sales techniques with them!

Your credibility just went down the toilet with that one :)

Jeez man - You putting people down for trying to give some advice to others who could use it. Im not calling anyone ignorant except maybe u. CMC is a good manufacturer - did you know they are the primary factory making HP brand media ? U have any idea who makes what & for whom? Come on man I sell these products to retailers and duplicators and I get feedback from them all so I have a pretty good idea whats good and what isnt in the market. As for my sales abilities, Im not selling anything here so your interpetation means nothing to me. I make a good living selling all sorts of products - what about you? Also seems like you are trying to push peeps to buy from specific dealers in the U.K.

So do we. We actually burn the stuff.

So what the hell is this supposed to mean.....

Sounds just a little condescending to me.

Yet you say you sell to retailers/dealers and you want us to e-mail you to know exactly where to buy them. Dealers you sell to, I presume or am I wrong?

lol - Im on no ones payroll....
I appreciate what u are saying as everyone is of course entitled to their own opinions. However, those who are confused about what media to purchase, only have to come to a forum like this and learn from others in the same boat, what is best for their needs
You say that CMC is a good manufacturer. WE, the general buying public tend to disagree with that. Who should we, the bystander trust? Someone who sells CMC media to the retailers or the end user who doesnt like the CMC product? I know i would always believe what the collective end user thinks is good and bad. Opinions, based on experience.
You mention two brands, Legacy and CMC, two brands that we dont hear much about on this forum and on other forums i visit occasionally. Why is this i wonder?
Quote: U have any idea who makes what & for whom?
I have a fairly idea who makes what and for who and have tested many different branded discs. I have contacts in Ritek, Taiyo Yuden, and a few retailers of media who tend to keep me updated on these things. If im honest, i think your post is nothing more than an advertisement for the people you supply media to.

Don't feed the troll. It is quite clear he is just trying to get people to buy the crap he sells and nobody wants.

This is getting ridiculous, my providing my email I was only trying to help others get a decent deal on media. You think I make any money on one or two cake boxes an end user will buy, you got to be kidding. I got bigger fish to fry.
As far as CMC is concerned. In the past they have had their problems as most manufactures have from time to time will have. At this stage they are making good product, why else would HP license them to make their product..can you answer that ? And what about Imation, they make product for them too. People dont know them because they OEM for others, they dont promote their brand.
So what you burn media, big deal. That makes u an expert?
You quote my comment " Seems many users dont know anything about dvd media" thats not saying they everyone is ignorant. You turned it into that. The fact is some do some dont.
As far as Legacy is conerned, ya a lot of people dont know them but its not fair to judge a new player because they dont have a known name. The fact is the have good product at a reasonable price & judging by the end user comments at Newegg most of whom rated their product 4 stars there are many that agree. And those that rated them badly purchased product prior to the change to Sony OEM.
You say I am trying to benefit. Hogwash. Why then did I say Ritek was one of the best ? & what about you posting 4 sites to buy from, com on man who do u think u r fooling.
You know what, I think u think Im cutting in on our territory, thats why u r being so dam snobby. U dont like someone else around that might direct others to places other than where you want them to go.
Personally I could keep going on this but I got better things to do. People who read this can make their own call, they are smart enough to read between the lines.

We know exactly who they are because we use ID tools to check the manufacturers.

More expert than you apparently.

You really need to read through the forum a little. You are breaking rules and asking questions that have been answered - A LOT.
That being said-
After 25 posts your status will change to Junior Member (it takes awhile sometimes because the site only updates once a month), but the "titles" don't mean much around here, it's more about what you contribute. Some of the Newbies have excellent advice and sometime's the people who have been around for a long time don't know or have a brain freeze. Read, read, read.read, read, then help out wher you can.

Ted500,
Quote: So can we kind of start over?
Of course!
Media can get a reputation around here, good or bad. Its difficult to change that. Ritek and Verbatim seem to be the media of choice here for most of us.
For example, I was given a couple of cakes of Memorex -R as part of a project I'm working on, so far, about every 7th or 8th disc is unusable.
This is how a media can maintain it's reputation.
The Newbie status does not reflect your technical prowess at all. There are some that know much more than I ever will about the topics discussed here.
It does indicate how much time you have spent here and if you are familiar with the way things work at AD.
Cheers,
Frank
