Replacing and flashing TS-H943 with MS28

Ok I know there are many, many posts on this subject but I was not able to find anything that really helped me. My son's Xbox 360 is having trouble reading disks. I have used a DVD disk cleaner, I opened his box and cleaned out everything and replaced his fan. I am thinking that the disk drive is finally dying. The manufacture date is Feb of 2006. I can get a new disk drive but see that I have to get the key from the old drive to flash it to the new drive. He lives for Xbox Live and I don't want him banned. He will not be playing backups or torrented games because that will get him banned. I also see that everything I have read says to hook up the DVD drive to a computer. I really don't want to do this as my computer is in a full case and is very heavy to move around, which is what I will have to do in order to swap with this method. I also see that I can switch out the circuit board from the old drive to the new one and that the Toshiba/Samsung drive does not have any unsoldering or soldering to do. Which method would be the easiest for me to do? I am somewhat technically inclined (I have been building computers for many years now), but this has me stumped. I am thinking about just buying a new Xbox 360 console for $199 because it would be easier but not the least expensive way to deal with this problem.
