Engadget has reported today that Apple and AT&T originally signed a five-year exclusivity pact in 2007 with the launch of the original iPhone, although it is unclear whether that deal is still in effect, just three years later. Apple is dumb! so much people want to use their phones and they lock it to one company. Imagine how much phones they would have sold if it had been unlocked or at least released for more companies.

Notice both companies only signed up until 2012?

Maybe they are playing it safe just incase the world ends? Sounds like they don't want to make the same commitments on Mars.
