FTP help with wireless network setup

Hi all, I'm new to the scene but so far I have installed and flashed my chip, and I installed evox, but now I have hit a wall. I can't FTP into my xbox through my pc. My PC is connected to a router on the other side of the house via wireless network card. The card plugs in a usb port so the ethernet port is still open. I just plugged in a crossover cable in the ethernet port in the back of my pc and to my xbox. However, at the "Network" menu in the systems management there is nothing for the "Type" and it says the first IP address is 0.0.0.0. Once agian i'm somewhat of a noob, but any help would be much appreciated.

you need to connect your xbox before you turn it on, or else you will always get 0.0.0.0
