I have done the x-clamp mod and it worked perfectly for the past week. The once again found joy of being able to play more then half hour at a time was amazing.. So I played for about 4-5 hours everyday straight for the last week.. no glitching or freezing or overheats.
today.. I get 40 mins in and over heat, and shutdown 2 RROD. I have a IR thermometer and it shows both heat sinks at the time of overheat are not more then 32-33 degrees Celsius.. What is going on here? It ran all last week at this temp.. wth
any help is greatly appreciated. thxz

I dunno if I could properly do a re flow sadly :(
What is this about cutting the temp trace? where is it? Not that I want to go do it immediately, but school me on it please.

It really does sound like the best thing would be a reflow, I went through something very similar to you... and sadly I couldn't get it fixed, so I had to get a new one.

Reflow, fan mod, cut temp sensor trace...no more problems. Error code is probably 0102 btw

So from my gatherings it is the tall heat sinks temp that deciphers whether or not the system will shut down. Correct?
When over heating during x-clamp mod, air was kept on the large heat sink, yet the short one was aloud to get as hot as anything.. So I assume it is the tall one that tells it when to shut off.
Btw, I have the 12v fan mod with ducting in place so that all the air the fan is drawing is coming directly over the heat sinks.

It's not actually overheating though. So even if you cut the temp trace and have the fans running full speed, you still have broken solder somewhere (and thus your error). It's basically the same problem as all the other 3 red/e74/no video errors. This is what the overheating tries to fix but it doesn't work. It just cant get hot enough to actually melt the solder back together. Even if it could get *that* hot it would damage the system. You need to do a reflow to get it back running *then* worry about added cooling so it doesn't come back.

so I just rechecked, most certainly 4 lights then 1 then 3 then 2.. 0132 error.
I have the mobo down bare in my hands right now, and I was just looking it over. Should I do the oven heating? or do I need a heat gun for that procedure.. I can't recall.

Also the little black thing with the 5 prongs near the middle of the picture has a rattle when you shake the mother board.. is this normal behavior?
Does anyone know Home Depot's return policy on items such as Heat Guns? :P

So the reflow has to be done to the three chips for the GPU and CPU, do I also heat up the HANA chip at the top of my picture as well? All while doing this on a completely flat surface as to have it settle completely perfect? This is probably a problem as my xbox has definitely spent all its life since 2007 in its vertical position.. lol

The thing that rattles is the little sensor that tells the xbox if it's vertical or horizontal. All it does is switch the lights on the front of the console. It's perfectly normal for it to rattle because it has a little ball in it.
Anyway that's not even the right sensor, the one that rattles is right behind the eject button.
To fix your issue you'll have to follow w00lys heatgun tutorial. If that doesn't work the only thing that will save your xbox is a proper reflow with flux.

I got a heat gun, but I am wondering as I have read many tuts on the web.. should I use the oven idea instead?
It seems like it might be a smarter option.. No way to knock it, and a steady rise in temps. start at around 100c pre-heat and then give it the 240c for the 4-5 minutes..
what are your guys idea on this??
