Still early & needs tweaking/tuning but I'm glad I still got 1 of my PS3's with OtherOS capability just in case...

I don't want to dump on your parade, but the 360 costs less than the PS3...why would you dedicate a whole PS3 to emulating a 360? Even with otherOS, this is still a pain to start vs starting the same app on the 360.

xbmc isn't an xbox emulator idiots.. it's a media player..

anyway.. there is a linux port which should work out of the box..

It should be as simple as download and unpack the source code.. then run the make with the "force-architecture" flag set..

only problem could be the dependencies.. YDL is a bloody antique.. no reason why totem-xine won't work though.. none at all... the one from DSL or Xebian (also 8 years old) shouldn't have any problems whatsoever..

This is what happens when console gamers with no linux know-how start trying to do things they couldn't even manage on a pc.. linux is linux.. ydl is obsolete (that's why $ony picked it) but it's just a matter of backporting the app to the old libs, the packages are called xbmc xbmc-common xbmc-live xbmc-skin-pm3-hd xbmc-standalone xbmc-web-pm3.. or updating ydl to something more modern.. It can be turned into debian or n00buntu after all.. nice thing about linux is you can run and patch the kernel to any version with any modules you need... ydl works, so anything else will work too with a bit of prodding.

Anyhow.. good work Oner.. (theres a surprise eh?) All this project needs is somebody to sit down and work with ydl and xbmc code on a pc to iron out the bugs... that won't be me because I can't be bothered and I don't rate xbmc as worthwhile.

Everything you have said is wrong :(
You dont seem to understand XBMC, XBMC is a media center which has nothing to do with the 360.

Did you watch the video, its running on Ubuntu, the Linux port WONT work as it isnt designed for the PS3's PPC architecture, madshaun1984 had to compile XBMC from scratch, using the MacOS version.

no.. I don't watch goobtube videos.. too many fakes on there for it to be a reliable believable source for anything technical. It's just too easy to fake something with consoles so called running stuff on a screen video..

If he "Had to compile the macOS version" then he doesn't know much about how software sits on top of an operating system hardware abstraction layer.. Like I said.. compile with the "force-archtecture" flags set.. or there is a fedora and debian ppc port of xbmc... it works sort of on macs running linux. again takes some finding.. dead end architectures get dropped by the developers pretty quick as they move to projects with a point..

as people can also run fedora and other rpm based distros (or add the capability to any debian based distro) this might be useful..

Use RPM Fusion for F8 (available for x86, x86_64 and ppc)
Install rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm for F8

$> su -
#> rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedo...able.noarch.rpm
#> yum install vlc
#> yum install python-vlc mozilla-vlc (optionnals)

simple isn't it?

sources are out there for people who know what to do with source code and can search.. but like I also said.. this isn't anything I can be bothered with, because IMO xbmc is crap. vlc is a better option because it isn't as reliant on loads and loads of other system libraries which will probably never be ported to a dead end architecture, and doesn't use way too much system resource to look pretty....

It seems i was mistaken, it as infact the Linux version he used, my fault for not paying attention, anyhow, XBMC is easy to compile, its the mesa driver which pose a hard fete.

Also XBMC = Media Center and VLC = Media Player, they are two different types of program's, so you cant compare them to each other.
