Hi,

I recently modded my controller. I replaced the green LEDs with white 0603 SMT LEDs, Now when my controller vibrates the LED flickers, is that normal? When the vibrator motor isn't spinning, the LED works fine. It only flickers when the vibrator motor spins. I replaced the LEDs on both of my controllers and both of them are the same (LED flickers on both).

Is this how it is supposed to be? If not, how do I fix it?

Thanks!

Maybe your batteries are dead and the motors are sucking more juice from the batteries and dimming the leds. I know the blue, white and purple the leds need a pretty strong battery to light up the led.

You should try using new batteries or plug in a play and charge cable and see if that changes anything. The battery pack usually produces a lower voltage. You can check out these pics i took awhile ago.

Here's with a half-charged battery pack.

Here's with some used AA batteries.

It only happens on the newer style controllers.

Thanks for the response. I found out that the blue and white LEDs require higher voltage than the Green and Red LEDs. That explains why my white LEDs weren't as bright as they were on the console's RF Power Board.

I hate playing with a wired controller, which is why I bought wireless controllers, I think I will live with this. I think playing with the "play 'n charge" cable will probably fix this issue. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't do anything wrong, since I am not a pro at soldering. It it dims/flickers when vibrates, so be it.

A proper solution would be to replace the 2 AA batteries with a 9 Volt battery to increase the voltage, and then add a resister to burn the unwanted voltage to bring everything to the required voltage level. Same can be done using 3 AA batteries (that would require a smaller resister I guess). But either way you would need to have a modified battery housing and you would need to do calculations on the size of the resistor. A heat sink might also be required since if the resistor is dissipating too much heat (because of the voltage is it burning away), it might just start melting the controller housing.

Cheers!
