Mount Second 12V Fan in case?

I have a jtagged xenon that I have to heatgun once in a while. I notice it gets bad when the temps run up to 65C. I soldering a second fan from an old box to it's own power supply and this drops the temps almost 15 degrees. I have no DVD drive and have this in the front. Anyone have any ideas how I could mount this second fan with the case on? Of course I am going to test to see if this keeps working but so far, she's much cooler!

Contact cement could be a good possibility. I am not sure of where you wish to put this fan, where the dvd drive used to be? Loads of room without it in eh? Maybe secure it to the top part of the case, and cut out ports for it to draw fresh air in through and have the stock fans pushing hot air out..

what direction is the thing blowing? towards the back fan, or down onto the heat syncs? if its down, you could probably mount it to the top shell and just be done with it. but thats a good idea adding another fan as my freeboot machine doesnt have a drive in it either.

yeah it kind of struck me by surpise when it froze up. I just have it sitting in front of the gpu and cpu. Played for 4 hours and it's 52C lol. I might try the top case mount and see if it's different. Now I have to solder a switch in dammit LOL. Gotta make it look good if the testing stays the way it is. I'll give it a few days of testing and then get some pictures for you guys. 1 12v fan mod the usual way, other has it's own power source. I had a old netgear transformer sitting here I spliced ;)

could just set FSD to 85-90% fan speed, would be around the same as a normal 12v mod, then just use the dvd power for the second fan. would eliminate the need for the external power source. just a thought.

Interesting thought, I forgot I could adjust the fan speeds. Any ideas how to mount this to the top of the case and make it stay?

could epoxy it, or just screw it in if you arent to uptight on looks. hell, paint over the screw holes and you will never notice. only problem would be screwing it in when the top case is on. but that would work better than glue as you would have no way of holding it down or against the plastic.
also, being that its a xenon, you could probably fab up an angled bracket that the fan screws to, and then the bracket screws to the plastic so the fan blows at an angle downwards and across the heat syncs.
this is something i will definitely look into once i get home tonight or tomorrow. great idea.

Not sure how m$ plans on cooling the next system since it's a slimline, but it better not over heat! Anyway, ran cool all night. I'll probably test it all week before I start on working on mounting the fan. I have to figure out how I am going to mount it to the case. Screws probably the best method.

just got done with mine. its a lot cooler. idles around 39C played some splinter cell for a lil bit, went back to FSD was at 44.6c. will post pics and stuff in a little bit. nets being a total POS right now

pics? I seem to keep my GPU now around 52C but the CPU can climb up to 65C depending on the fan placement. What temps are considered overheating?

if your gpu is at 52 its not mounted correctly...mine idles at 39 highest its hit is 44. and cant get pics of the hot glue...not really wanting to take the console apart again. but its just glued around the edges and overlaped the fan some to ensure it couldnt come out.

not uneven, but not positioned correctly. and yes im using stock xclamps. using some cheap thermal paste in this console as well. darn AS5 didnt come in yesterday even though it says its delivered.

not sure, but something isnt right if yours is running at 52....no reason that mine should be 14 degrees cooler than yours with almost the same setup. but post some pics of yours so we can compare.

You should bondo and paint that case up Wabash lol. what you might want to try is make sure the fan is glued to the case good and tight so that you are pulling air from outside to the inside not just circulating hot air.

thought about bondo-ing it up, but didnt really care that much. and its deffo pulling outside air in. the air coming out the back isnt even warm anymore.
