I have a dying dvd drive. it las ixtreme lt on it. I modded this drive about 2 months ago and now it wil barely read any games. Sometimes it will read games and den it could be 5 minutes later u try to load the same game it wont load. Then i could even wait about 30 minutes later and try to load that game and it wont load. Need help asap. I have opened my dvd drive but have not made any adjustments yet. I have a multimeter (micronta 22-171). I dont have a clue how to work this thing lol and i have read some pot tutorials and im unsure about a few things. 1) does the drive need to be powered on to get ohm reads on the multimeter? 2) while facing the dvd drive with laser pointed up and the pot to calibrate on the left, do i put the positive on the top dot or the bottom dot to test the ohms or does it even matter? 3) do i turn clockwise or counter clock wise? If anyone here can help me out with any of these problems your help will be deeply apreciated. Thanks

I can answer your ohms question, and to check ohms you have to have the drive off. You could damage your meter if you have it powered on and checking in ohms.

1. Absolutely not! Like Beno420 has mentioned, you could damage your multimeter. You're measuring the resistance, so no power is needed.

2. It doesn't matter which way you do it. You could put the positive end on the left terminal, and the negative end on the right terminal. It's going to register the same amount of resistance either way.

3. You need to turn it (left terminal) counter-clockwise to reduce the amount of resistance. I wouldn't go below 3.2 ohms as lowering it more than that will likely ruin your laser. Remember to do small increments turning counter-clockwise, and then check.

Good Luck!

did the pot calibration today. the riginal settings were 3.41. The drive didnt play games consistently until i adjusted it to 2.97. As of right now, it works but im going to some more testing on it later on this evening.
