Ok.. I have a 360 Elite(that I was going to start modding)...got the RROD. Saw the "ultimate RROD thread" here, and am I right in assuming that my best repair option is to send to microsoft??
Will Microsoft, in the course of the repair, erase my HDD/Saved games?
What is my best course of action? Priority is a working console, not a quick fix.
Maybe the diagnostic codes would help me decide?? How to find out which code it is?
Thanks for any advice. This is extremely frustrating.
Honestly, your best option is to send it in to MS and have it repaired properly. MS offers a 3 year warranty on 3 red ring and E 74.
If you send your console in to MS, you don't send in your hard drive and cables. Just the console only. If your console has the onboard memory, then you can just copy anything saved on it to a usb drive.
If you send it in, they will send you a console with the newest DVD drive 9series liteon and you will need to cut traces on the drive in order to mod. If you haven't done that before I would suggest trying to fix the console you have as the DVD drive will be easier to mod. Of course MS will send a new console and you shouldn't have to worry about RROD for about a year or so and then you could always pay someone to do it for you. Then you could do the xclamp fix and it would help avoid the RROD as well.
Your saves would be ok since they are stored on your hard drive or MU, unless it has onboard memory, in which you would want to move them to your MU or Hard drive. Hope this helps.
Ah yes, they may replace the dvd drive also, depending on what drive is in it now.
If they do then you're almost guaranteed to get the LO v.9. Worse case scenario; you have to pay someone to flash your drive for you.
If you have to pay someone for doing work what would you rather pay for? Someone to flash your drive... or someone to repair the rrod and hope they're doing it right?
