Hi I have recently had my ps3 repaired but within five minutes of switching on it gives me the error messgae "your ps3 is getting too hot. please turn off and try later" I cant hear any fans so im suspecting he didnt connect the fan. So my question is is this something I could attempt to myself (being a complete novice) is there anyone that can give me some help or guidance on this?
Thanks
Jamie
you may be able to repair it but if you have paid someone to repair it and they have caused another problem they should be responsible for fixing any other problems they have caused.
custom built gaming pc from early 2010,ps2 with 15 games all original,ps3 500gbs with 5 games all original, yamaha amp and 5.1channel surround sound speakers,46inch sony lcd smart tv.
its not too difficult to get the PS3 apart, top slide cover off, then top case section off, then remove the Bluray drive(2 PLUGS)remove the power supply, then remove all the screws around the outside of the motherboard, then lift the board up, refit plug for fan, then put everything back together again
**you may or may not get a proper XMB screen, but the PS3 deffo displays the safe mode menu when the fan isn't plugged in, i know as i left the fan plug out the other day, doh
Then there must be some differences between the models there; when I left it unplugged, the system did the triple beep plus flashing red LED thing, and shut down in about 2 seconds; before the screen even came up.

40gb, it was on for about 10 minutes before it switched itself off, and i realised my error
You shouldnt be able to hear the fan when you first turn it on, you should be playing a game before the fan kicks into 2nd or 3rd gear. It sounds like you console needs to be reflowed, or mabe just a better thermal compound applied.
