Ok this is mostly a tip, cause this is a issue many stumble into.
(i dont claim i know better then everyone. Just know what ive found out)
The whole "only burn on speed 2.4" has to stop.
You have to burn on a certain speed fitting your discs and your burner.
I will admit that Verbatim seams to be the best and most likely to not fail, but other discs will do fine if you figure out the right speed.
The discs ive used are Arita x2.4 speed and some just called Premium x8 speed.
Arita are the cheapest discs ive found. They will fail once in a while, but given the price i can get 75 arita for the price of 25 verbatim, so doesnt mater that much. (prices below)
But i went with premium this time. Second cheapest ive found.
Now sure i had alot of preoblems with them.
I tried speed 2.4. Fails many times.
Tried MIN speed fails many times.
I try MAX speed fails many times.
Then i try the given speed of the disc.
x8
Works flawless everytime.
Game runs great and never any issue.
and ive been trying to play around with some other discs doing the same. Just burning on the discs speed.
I know this might all seam silly. But the idea discs HAVE to be burned on speed 2.4 is just wrong-
Not gonna promise it will work everytime on whatever disc u buy. (cause lets face it. Many discs are just crap.)
But if you find some cheap ones, try burning them on the given speed.
Use cloneCD and set the speed of the disc. (not just using the MAX option).,
Ill bet you can find some just as good as verbatim and you will save some cash.
So to sum it up. I use premium "media code : RICOHJPND01" on speed x8.
Games are done burning in 14 minutes and they work everytime.
(so far its 32 games).
(not that usefull info, but still)
And just to get you some idea of the price.
(in danish currency but youll get the idea.)
Verbatim 218 DKK for 25
Arita 77 DKK for 25.
Premium 386 DKK for 100
(cheapest ive found them where i live. )
As you can see i pay 96.5 DKK for 25 premium.
So ill save 121.5 from the price of Verbatim.
Sorry if this post was uneeded for some. But i think this is valuble info since the given info is wrong.
And not saying its just here. Its everywhere you look on whatever site, peolpe are saying : " Only use verbs and only burn on x2.4".
And sorry for the miss-spells.
Again. Not pointing fingers at anyone, just letting people know.

bubblerat, ANY brand will work. You keep stressing that cheap media is fine to use. Do you actually even know the reason we say stay away from cheap media? I have about 22 50-packs of Memorex DVD+R DL that I've accumulated for free, yet I still purchase Verbatims to burn my games on. hmmmmmmm,,,,,, I wonder why?
Originally posted by bubblerat: The whole "only burn on speed 2.4" has to stop.
In the early days, slower burns resulted in better quality burns. (today it's not a big concern as burners are better)
Originally posted by bubblerat: other discs will do fine if you figure out the right speed.
You can burn the game to ANY brand, but that doesn't mean it will do fine. (laser)
Originally posted by bubblerat: The discs ive used are Arita x2.4 speed
Arita = Crap! (read the media threads)
Originally posted by bubblerat: and some just called Premium x8 speed.
Premium crap!! (read the media threads)
Originally posted by bubblerat: Arita are the cheapest discs ive found.
Cheap crap!!
Originally posted by bubblerat: They will fail once in a while
Because they're crap!!!!
Originally posted by bubblerat: But i went with premium this time. Second cheapest ive found.
A little less expensive crap!
Originally posted by bubblerat: Now sure i had a lot of preoblems with them.
That red word tells you that they're crap!!!!
Originally posted by bubblerat: I tried speed 2.4. Fails many times.
If it as you say, fails many times at the lowly speed of 2.4x it's definitely crap.
Originally posted by bubblerat: Tried MIN speed fails many times.
Crap! For the same reason as the above answer.
Originally posted by bubblerat: I try MAX speed fails many times.
Now this is to be expected with crap media.
Originally posted by bubblerat: Then i try the given speed of the disc. x8. Works flawless everytime.
Yes, it's supposed to work at the recommended speed. That's not where the problem lies.
Originally posted by bubblerat: (cause lets face it. Many discs are just crap.)
Such as Arita.
Seriously, read the media threads. NOW!!!!!!

Dude u didnt get the point...
Premium disc are fine. _They are not "Crap".
As mentioned, if i burn them at speed 8 they are done after 13 minutes and work every single time.
And thats 30+ games so far.
So how is it they are bad?
And they are a hell of a lot cheaper than verbatim.
Sounds like you just wanna argue, just to argue.
And i really dont get what point your making if your even making one.
I was simply trying to let people know that verbatim arent as superior as everyone "plus you i guess" say they are.
Sure they are the best. But also the most expensive.
So give me a reason why i should buy verbatim instead of premium when they are cheaper and run the games just as well?
Please take it easy on the bubblerat

Oh yes I did. You're stressing that the crap Premium discs work just fine as an alternative to the "expensive" Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens. Yeah a whole dollar for a game is expensive.
Originally posted by bubblerat: Premium disc are fine. _They are not "Crap".
Oh yes they are too crap. The media code RICOHJPND01 is a synonym for "crap". (Look it up).
Originally posted by bubblerat: As mentioned, if i burn them at speed 8 they are done after 13 minutes and work every single time.
So do the crap-ass Memorex that I have. Work every single time (but they're still crap)
Originally posted by bubblerat: And thats 30+ games so far.
If you had used a superior disc like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, those 30+ games would have still cost less than the cost of 1 new retail game. Whoa, those Verbatims & Taiyo Yudens sure are expensive.
Originally posted by bubblerat: So how is it they are bad?
As Dr. Evil would say with finger quotes "LA-SER".
Originally posted by bubblerat: And they are a hell of a lot cheaper than verbatim.
Have you ever thought that there is a reason for that? And that there is a reason "overly-expensive" Verbatims consistently fly off store shelves?
Originally posted by bubblerat: Sounds like you just wanna argue, just to argue.
Contrary to what you may think, I'm not here to argue. You have to read btween the lines. There are 2 lines below. Read between them.

Crap media gives bad burns, deteriorate quicker, shortens the 360's laser's lifespan, have no consistency, etc etc.
Originally posted by bubblerat: I was simply trying to let people know that verbatim arent as superior as everyone "plus you i guess" say they are.
You yourself said "as", which means that you know they are superior. Face it, YOU sad "as".
Originally posted by bubblerat: Sure they are the best. But also the most expensive.
True. The two go hand-in-hand. (A Mercedes is more expensive than Hyundai. I wonder why?)
Originally posted by bubblerat: So give me a reason why i should buy verbatim instead of premium when they are cheaper and run the games just as well?
Because you'll probably be creating a thread soon that says: "360 won't read games anymore need help with potcal/laser replacement". Refer to quote & answer #8.
P.S. Again, read the media threads.

i was going to say the same thing.. i believe when its a slower speed, its easier on the laser to read., and that whole x8 speed, imagine that, the writes FLAWLESSLY on the speed it was made for..

I use them all the time. I just am not stupid enough to backup 360 games to them (at least no my own games). I double checked. It's only 17 packs. My wife is working on a 200 disc project.

Sister-in-law is a vender for a company that uses them in huge bulk.

fine you know what. You win. I feel your gonna burst out in tears soon if i dont just agree with ya.
Verbatims rule and all other discs that actually work will destroy my machine and the world will go boom.
But ill still use my really really crap discs that work.
And ill still save the money from those really really bad discs.
And if my laser dies (which it surely will one day no mater what, since the machine is 5 years old)
Ill buy a new drive with the money i saved from my oh so crappy discs.
So there ya have it.
That is "MY" opinion.
Clearly you think otherwise and thats ok. But ive heard it twice now, so no need to hear again.
And to the others as mentioned before., This is just info from what ive figured out. You can use it or you can let it be. Makes no difference to me.
If your afraid that other discs will destroy your 360, well dont do it. He might be right about that part, i honestly dont know.

Like i said. Wanted to share what ive experienced.
Thats why i made a "freaking" thread about it.
So whats not to understand?
Your all allowed to have your own opinions, but the facts still holds the final word.
The discs work.
I dont need verbatim
I dont need to burn at 2.4

I never disputed those facts at all. In fact, my 1st words in this thread were "ANY brand will work". I just added a "but & why".
And now I shall take heed to your signature.
