Hi All,

1st I have to say that I have spent the last 2 days and approx 8 hours reading about modding an Xbox 360 so I am not
jumping straight in and asking "stupid" questions without trying to find the answer 1st! After saying that,
if you kind ladies/gents can answer/confirm the following, I'd be greatful!

1) From what I can gather, as I have a new Xbox then my only choice for playing back up games is to flash
the DVD drive firmware using JungleFlasher as the Jtag thingy won't work, is that correct?

2) Once flashed I can't play on line with backup games (I have seen people that claim that they can, what's the verdict???)
3) Can I play original games with a flashed firmware DVD drive (again, I've seen different views on this)
4) What does Xbox homebrew allow you to do that is useful? I know about Wii homebrew but I haven't really
figured out what the Xbox version does!
5) I have seen various tutorials for flashing my DVD firmware but it's hard to know which one to follow especially as some seem very old. I have always followed guides linked to on this forum and been okay, can anyone recommend a good guide?

Well, I'll leave it there. Sorry for the beginner annoying questions, I'm trying ;-)!

1. If it's rather new you cannot Jtag you need al older dashboard to be able to Jtag 7300 and below I believe.

2. You can play online but you will always run the risk of having that 360 console banned from XBL

3. Flashed drive will play original always keep CFW up to date

4. Homebrew is for Jtaged consoles you can load XBL arcade games and DLC and you can load games through FTP or use NXE2GOD and play the games without having a disc.

5. Use JFlashers tutorial or search youtube

Correct

You can but at your own risk, you should be OK for a year or so. I have a box thats been modded for a year with 1.51 firmware and no ban, but ive seen others with a ban a month after. Either way, the worst they can do is ban you from playing online.

Yes, of course

This is only for JTAG'd xbox, homebrew is anything home made, it could be a emulator (like SNES or NES) or it could be a loader program (like xexmenu)

Google "JungleFlasher PDF" this is the best, most comprehensive guide that I know of.

Okay, sorry to bother you guys again....

I have done even more reading and think I am in a postition to have a go at this **big sigh**!!

A couple of quick questions:

I think I need to know what DVD drive I have before I can buy the correct hardware - is that right? i.e. some require an LT switch or CK3 probe 2 ( i think the Liteon Drives). However, from what I can gather I am going to need, at the very least an Xecuter CK3 pro and a VIA6421 Sata card (recommended as it is definitely compaitible) is that correct? If so I'll go ahead and get these and if I do need anything else I can get it later.

Just wanted to make sure that I fully understand before I start shelling out the cash!

Between the LT switch or CK3 probe 2, I'd say get the Probe II as you can use it over and over and on all Lite-On versions.

The Xecuter CK3 is basically to power the drive while it's connected to your PC.
The VIA Sata card is just in case your PC can't connect to the drive on it's own.
(both of these tools are optional in SOME cases, not usually though).

Since you have a newer box, get yourself a Sata 6421, CK3 & Probe II to make the job it's easiest.

If you have a TS-H943 ms25 you dont need anything else as long as your motherboards sata can read the drive its pretty easy to check, you may think it cant like I did, but it was because I hadn't gone in to my bios and changed the sata connections to native/ide as for powering the drive you can use the 360 to do it as long as you bridge the case with your pc case (I just had mine touching metal to metal). There is an arguement that having the drive connected to your 360 for power but not having the drive connected to the 360 sata port makes a record and gets you banned from Xbox Live, I don't know havent been on Live to check. Just my two cents.

Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.
