It just tells me it won't all fit on the dvd.
I'm doing fine with my movies, but how do I do this--would appreciate help asap--yes, it's me dummy marie.
You all have helped so much in the past--tks.

Hi dmarie,

I don't believe you'll compress a Data disc like you do a DVD movie, different animals they are :-(

You are dealing with a dual layered DVD to hold that much data, you'll have to split it between two discs I think -

What exactly is it dmaria ?

My husband is an auto mechanic--it is some technical files with setup folders, content, and all kinds of info. Want to copy it so he doesn't mess up the original, of course, to use in his garage.
Should I put certain files on one disc--can I burn it with Nero Express? I'm burning it to my hard drive right now--not sure what to do next.
Tks, Pete

I've heard people here doing just that with the exact same program -

My thought would be to burn it to his PC's HD - can you do to 2 discs then have him take it to work and download it to his HD. I would think that should work and his originals could be saftly stored -.

Give it a shot -

Well , also, Pete, one file on this disc is 5.80GB--I put all the other ones on a single disc, but can't even fit this one on a disc. The file is labeled content--not sure what it is--I'll keep experimenting.
tks, Dmarie

it can be done, but you'll need a burner that burns RAM disks. The only two I know of is an IBM that goes for $219 and I think the new plextor does, but that runs somewhere around $160 and up.

And you would have to use a double sided RAM disk.

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=-840&langId=-1&partNumber=22P7036&storeId=1

And the other burner is not a Plextor. Its LG SUPER-MULTI FORMAT DVD sells for around $80-$130

Thanks, guys, I appreciate the help. If I get another burner, I'll check those out.
Thanks again for replying so quickly so I don't waste too much time on something I can't do.

dmarie, little Darlin', you're not reading us correctly, This is a "Must Do" - You are saving a very expensive program for your man for about $100.00 - Cheap at twice the price. You're just being "Nice" and suffering through the "Trauma" of having your PC "Violated" when the second burner is installed, What a caring person you truly are - The Gods must have smiled upon him for having brought you into his life -

Now, enough of this crap, Pony up the ?C? note and let?s get this show on the road -

You Go Girl - - -

lol Pete, honesty is best!!! Also one small note a double sided ram disk runs $6-$7. And most important of all holds 9+GB's and is re-writable. Key Word "re-writeable".

OK, so you guys are saying I can't do it unless I get him a new burner for my computer on Father's Day to burn his disc? OK, gotcha. Sounds like a good plan to me--I'll have to wait awhile, but will start checking on it. Why do they have to make things so difficult and more $$$$$$ all the time?
You are the geniuses, thanks.

dmarie, some food for thought. Sony is close to releasing a new burner that will burn not RAM discs but will burn dual layered discs. But who knows when they will sell the dual layered discs.
