I'm a newbie when it comes to this whole modding business...but I think I understand that Waves are different sets of games that your xbox will support backups of, right?

My question is, if my Xbox is modded, will I have to open up my 360 again and re-flash it when Wave 7 come around or is there another way to update it?

No, the newest firmware for lite on & benq will boot any wave. For hitachi 1.51 will boot any wave and samsung you have to use activation disk (unless they release new FW)
