After reading post after post of people still using the probe 707 method, I figured I'd post this. Users claiming they know what they are talking about and yet tell people they don't need to do a full dump of their lite-on drive. YES YOU DO! Here is why:

1.) A 707 or dummy.bin method does NOT dump the laser calibration. Wonder why your laser always fails or you get disc read errors? That is why! A full dump will keep the laser calibration for your drive.

2.) Dummy.bin method is NOT safe on xbox live since they can tell you only have a half dump of data.

Therefore, YES! You must be able to cut traces and either solder them back together, use a rebuild board, or LT switch.

www.vgcrepairs.biz CONFIRMS this method is proper!

Of course VGC will confirm this, they sell products to people because they are a business. Team Jungle, (you know, the people who develop jungleflasher) still stand behind the dummy.bin method. But hey, what do they know?

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

Just a thought if you spoof a drive, any drive does that affect the laser calibration? Or because you have the correct firmware on it but are only faking the drive your OK?

Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.

NO one said that method doesn't work. It is however NOT a full dump. You make no sense about VCG. Yeah they sell stuff. What does that have to do with dumping firmware? Team Jungle will tell you that the dummy.bin method does NOT dump the laser calibration. So, do it the right way the first time.

I'm not trying to be involved in a flame war, it's not about that for me. I'm also not going to say I know more, or less, than you...what's the point? Do we win something?

I'm just trying to share the knowledge that I have obtained while working on these boxes. I am also trying to cite as many sources from which that knowledge came from. That's all.

I have first hand experience with this drive. It is my pride and joy elite console and when taking the right precautions it all works perfectly.

I've personally done 100's of boxes. I work with ED who owns VCG who also invented the vampire, and other extractors. But what does he know? Any top modder will disagree with you Mrgreaser. No one said it would work your way, it's just not the correct way to dump a lite-on is all I am stating. It's not safe on live and doesn't dump the laser calibration. Are you saying the dummy.bin method does? I am still trying to figure out what your arguement is here.

It's all about being as safe as possible, and at the moment making a full dump of the firmeware is the safest procedure. Since the probe 707 method doesn't do a full dump, why not just accept the full dump method as best.

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking the method that worked for them, is the best method. And they think this way, simply because they haven't been caught/banned (yet). If those same people flashed their boxes for the first time ever today, they'd choose to do a full dump because it makes more sense to do so.

There is two people that agree LOL. I love how people say "I haven't been banned" so it's good then? LOL, noobs teaching noobs is never a good thing.

Good deal, I understand the point. I've owned my own computer business for the last 9 years and partnered with a company from southern california who resells electronics and gaming consoles and do most of their repair work. They can't mod in their shop for obvious reasons. I'm on about 200 consoles at the moment, not several hundreds as Modking30.

I also endorse taking all the necessary precautions. So far that, it's up to the person modding the console to find out what works out best for them and to assume the risk.

However, we are discussing being banned from laser calibration data on a Liteon. Team Jungle still approves of the Dummy.bin method. Instead of perpetuating false assumptions about why bans occur, and not to say I don't agree, will you post a link to a credible source that says this will definitely ban you from live...maybe even refute the advice of the people over from Team Jungle?

As linked in another post earlier, the person in question asking the Mods over at team Jungle what to do:

LOL. Again, the FULL dump is the proper and most safe way. I don't really think either side as proof. Only M$ can tell us that ;)

As stated in the other thread too, if you want to flash to LT 1.1, you should be doing a FULL dump anyway.

I'm guessing only time will tell, though peeps who have done a full dump could still play bad rips so there's going to be lots of false positives.

Have to be honest, I do believe that the full firmware dump on all drives is the way to go, but.... If i got a 7xxx or a 8xxxv1 then I would prolly not bother cutting traces etc for a full dump as im quite lazy :D

Never had any issues with a 7x or a 8xv1 drives using the plain JF or dosflash method. And I don't care about Live.

I haven't either, but I still full dump 74850's & 83850v1's now.
My son's 74850 is a dummy dump that I'm leaving as is (for reference).

Just wait for the COD release, usally happens then. We'll finally see how unban-able LT really is. Especally since they release 1.1 after saying LT 1.0 was it. LOL. It will be the never ending battle. I still have some customers on 1.6 that survived the last wave.
