Hello,
I am trying to convert mpegs so I can burn them onto dvd using Nero vision express. However if I select more than about 2 gbs of mpegs I receive and error message about not enough memory at location to create temp files. The drive has plenty of space (8 gb) so I am not sure why I am getting this error. Any ideas?

What type of partition? Preferably NTFS. Fat32 has problems with any file over 4 GB.
You'll need at least 10GB of free HDD space, 12Gb recommended. Remember Windows virtual memeory ie;pagefile

If converting avi/divx/mpg to DVD [mpeg2] then a 700mb file for instance will encode to somewhere around the size of 3Gb roughly [depending on what file compression was used on the source file].

NeroVision Express is not one of the better encoders IMHO , but it should do it's job if you have all the correct codecs nstalled on your machine.

You'll need more than 8Gb free HDD space if you are looking to do DVD authoring btw , as explained quite correctly by 321sucker ;-)

[I personally use MainConcept MPEG Encoder , it is the fastest that I have tried & it doesnt compromise video quality at all ... plus there's no splitting video+audio like some encoders].

Yes the partition is fat32 but I do have around 12 gb of hdd space left.
I might look for that MainConcept MPEG Encoder

trueman, you might want to seriously consider converting from the FAT32 to NTFS file system - read about it yourself, it's safe and easy to do -
If you want to get into DVD's you'll need it -

Also, if you are running XP, I hear that in the admin tools>computer management>disk management. You can right click the drive and convert to NTFS from there.
I wouldn't work for me, but I hear that it can be done.
I, like ScubaPete, used partition magic 8.0, but it cost.
