Hello there,

I'm currently having a small dilema with my xbox360. My objective is to switch the Dvd Rom drives in my xbox360.
The original one i am switching out is failing me (not reading discs etc) the model number is 0078FK
So what i have done is, bought an old RROD xbox and taken the dvd rom out of that one, the model code for it is 0047DJ

This is where i am having problems, I took the CHIP out of the original(broken, 0078Fk) dvd rom and placed that one successfuly into the replacement(Good, 0047DJ)dvd rom.

However i am going to say, IT DOES read DVD's perfectly. It reads them first go, no problems on several movie DVD's. IT DOESNT read xbox360 games, giving me an error "Place this game into an xbox360 to play"

This has led me to believe i have to flash the dvd rom drive with the original roms code for it to work. However i think i am very confused? Could you please help me in the right direction?

Ok, you may have to give some more info here since you're not using the "common" 360 verbage.

It looks like you have 2 Hitachi drives, is this correct?
If that is the case, then you need to do one of two things, flash the second drive with the key from the original drive...you would have to use a program like jungleflasher to extract the key.
You may however be more comfortable just swapping the PCB (drive board) from the orignal drive to the new drive. That should be sufficient, unless your second drive is bad too.

What do you mean by "chip?"

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

By "chip" I believe he's referring to the DVD drive's circuit board.
And I believe he's trying to get around flashing, and just do it by swapping hardware.

What I think he did:
Xbox 1: Drive died.
Xbox 2: Bought RRoD console for it's drive.
Took the board from Xbox 2's drive, and put into Xbox 1's drive (leaving Xbox 1 with the wrong DVD key).

What he should've done:
Xbox 1, has a drive, which has a circuit board in it.
Xbox 2, has a drive, which has a circuit board in it.
Since the procedeure is hard for me to explain in words, I'll just say the end result is that you have to have a combination of:
Xbox 1's console, (because it's not red-ringed).
Xbox 2's DVD drive, (because it's laser read works).

I did this with 2 Lite-Ons (a 74850c and a 83850c)
