Hey Everybody,

I had a question about a possible corrupt HDD. My bluray drive is dead, won't take discs and no bluray light. Replaced the drive and laser, still nothing. Tried another drive board from same model (60gb cecha01), and still nothing. All it does is detect when a disc is trying to be inserted but does not take it. The only thing I can find is when I try to rebuild my database in the PS3 diagnosis screen it says hard drive corrupted will repair now but never fixes it. Could a corrupted HDD be the cause of my Bluray not working at all. It is as if my PS3 is not seeing it at all so I'm thinking it is a driver issue.

The drive is controlled by software, so a software problem can cause bluray drive problems. You could try using diskpart to wipe out the drive...just make sure you have the latest update on a USB key before you do so.

Thanks, Killer. I actually read one of your posts before about putting the PS3 drive in Sata PC to wipe it using NTFS, which I did, but it didn't do a thing and the PS3 still responds that my drive is corrupt.

Hmmm...either the plug is loose, or the drive really is bad.

When you pull the drive out, you will notice that the sata data and power connectors have pins on just one side. You can try putting a small drop of superglue in the side of the connector that has no pins...once it is dry, it will help to make the connections tighter.

You don't have to format it at all if it is going to be installed internally; you can skip the "format..." line from my guide...I just do it to make sure that the drive isn't so bad that windows can't even deal with it.
