How Are They Hacking the PS3 Online?

OK, just checked out some stats on GTA4 online. There are a few modes (mostly the ones from the 'fly the co-op' trophy) where people have gotten crazy-low times that are simply impossible. One mode even has 6 people who finished on zero seconds. I also found that some people have been using automatic rocket launchers; even in pistol-only matches. Others fly through the sky with no helicopter, and still others are completely immortal.
I thought that GTA4 PS3 was encrypted, so this could not happen...are they doing this with some kind of external hardware?
Before you ask, NO...I don't want to cheat. I do want to know more about this though...as it is clear that the PS3 has been hacked (at least to a certain point), while still working online.

the PS3 was hacked to allow unsigned code along time ago, my guess is there routing there PS3 threw a PC then to the net.

rofl no it wasnt.
KillerBug GTA IV has always had these type of bugs/glitches, it seems Rockstar has never cared to fix them.

yes it was, it was fixed in a FW update. to use it however you had to inject the code every time you booted the system. if you mask your actual firmware with a spoof using the pc. there would be no need to update there for you could still use the hack. Ive seen people cheat on MAG,GTA4,MW/MW2,frontlines and BFBC2.
i play these games on MP most of the time, its no where near as bad as the same titles excluding MAG on xbl though.

Wow...I wish I had found a way to keep using the old firmware while going online...everything I tried stopped working a week or two after 3.21 came out.

KillerBug all methods are blocked, there is no way to keep 3.15 and play online, there is no way to run unassigned code, regardless of what the other poster is claiming.

I have seen this happening since 3.21 came out; I just saw it a couple days ago. This is still possible somehow. I can't find any clues on this! Someone cracked something...and they seem to be keeping it rather quiet.

lol believe me, it isn't possible, all proxies have have been blocked for 3.15,if you are on 3.15 you cannot access PSN, if you are on 3.21 or 3.30 you can use the proxy method, but it will not work on 3.15 and the chances of someone finding a method are very slim.
EDIT
If your talking about GTA, then nothing has been cracked, the game has always had glitches, when i first got the game, a certain PS3 dev showed me quite a few glitches.

I know of several glitchs on MW2 such as elevator and getting behind walls. They dont require code. Just got to know what to do and where to do it. I Do Not Use them but have tried them just to see. You can youtube the cheets to see how to do them.

I know about a lot of GTA4 glitches as well; jump in the right place, or drive through the wrong spot and you fall into a the underworld...but this is different. I have never found a glitch that gives me an automatic rocket launcher in a pistols-only match. I have never found a glitch that allows me to get from point a to point b faster than a taxi can take me in single player. I have never found a glitch that allows a person to soak up rocket launcher rounds while moving. And I know it simply isn't possible to make $100,000 in a single 20-minute deathmatch while getting only 10 kills....but I have seen all of these things happen, and most of them I have seen in the last week or so.

i've seen some weird shit too, just wish the ps3 could record live Gaming sessions. there definitely not glitches at least non i've seen. geohot did release some info on how to get memory dumps not to long ago, even showcased a modified 3.21 running an OtherOS.

Nobody has done anything with those dumps and if they had, it wouldnt be to glitch in online gaming and the so called CFW wasnt really a CFW.

is tearing into this like Free pizza at an Anime Convention. and unless you work with this community how the hell would you know what the have and haven't accomplished. it took them 1 week to absolutely tear apart the psp and its so called encryption.
and notice i didn't call it CFW, i said Modified 3.21.

I think you answered your own question, i may only be a News Editor/Moderator on a well known PS3 "hacking" site, that makes me a relatively small fish, compared to the big guys, but i do converse with some people in the "scene", you have half the scene crapping on the dump, and the other half talking about it and doing nothing.

....ive heard this one before millions of times, and it usually ends up being a nobody on the other end.
i may only be a Secret Agent in a well known Military Branch, but i can tell you Russia has more nukes than North Korea. Russia wont use them, Korea will launch them because they don't care.

No problem...I might be the president of france...but it isn't very likely.
I wish the PS3 had recording support too...I wanted to get a HDMI tuner for my PC, but all the games output with HDCP...and HDCP capture cards are illegal (because they can be used to pirate blurays...AnyDVDhd does it faster and better, and that is perfectly legal...but the card that only has legitimate uses is banned...thanks to the DMCA and the mindless politicians that signed it into law without even reading the cover).

The only way they are cheating on gta4, is through the use of glitches, (an example of which can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKuyhAbeBiA ). The ps3 has not been openly hacked to allow anything to be run on the GameOS partition on the ps3, that shouldnt be there, other than the odd gamesave hack on unencrypted saves.
marcusita is bang on the money with his comments, if you still dont believe it, just do a google search for exploits (other than geohotz hardware OtherOS exploit) all you will find that actually works, are a handful of gamesave exploits, and quite a few glitches.
