If you like paying for online gaming, playing back ups and don't care for blu ray then go with the 360. I did hear that the fail rate on the Jasper is lower but not significantly. Also factor in your friends. How many are on live versus PSN?
Also which of the 2 has more exclusive games that you want to play? Do you like the idea of the PS Move or Kinnect? I bought my PS3 for the first party games (I've also had the PS one and PS2). Then the fact that I did not have to buy accessories that are Sony branded IE mouse, keyboard, headset, HDD was nice. All my friends followed suit and to some extent I was able to get some to convert from the 360.

Yes, all kidding aside, I prefer the PS3, but that's not really all that surprising considering this is a PS3 forum.

The main issues I have with the 360 include:

1.) The notoriously high hardware failure rate - depending on who you ask, anywhere from 10% to 54% of all 360s have suffered or do suffer from hardware problems of one sort or another. Word is that the Jasper upgrade (and now the Slim redesign) have helped to reduce this stat, but the sheer fact that it is and/or was so high - much, much higher than it has any right to be, at any rate - ticks me off to no end. (That users have continued to purchase the consoles ticks me off even more, but that's another matter entirely.)

2.) Proprietary accessories. Anything from hard drives to battery packs to WiFi adapters to even memory cards must be proprietary Microsoft products, and they inflate the prices like nobody's business. A 250GB Xbox 360 hard drive costs $120, whereas a regular 250GB laptop hard drive costs a by-comparison meager $47 (or less, if you know where/when to look). Anyone remember the Datel fiasco? MS locks out third-party memory cards because their cheap, high-capacity products are taking business away from MS's own overpriced, 512MB-max memory cards. That MS charges exorbitant prices for hardware that has a high failure rate as it is is just unacceptable to me.

Those are the only two big issues that I have with the 360 (that I can think of off the top of my hat), and it's not even a "compared to PS3" thing. It's a "feeling salty because you have competition that's better than you in every way, so you boobytrap everything to get rid of them" thing.

Not that the PS3 doesn't have its own set of issues. The elimination of OtherOS is a major one, but it still sits with me more easily than the blatant skulduggery MS employs.

My main issue with the 360 is the lack of free online play...but I honestly don't trust sony to keep online play free, as they have promised to keep it free, and corporations cannot tell the truth. At least it will only cost half as much per year on PS3.

The PS3 has 3D, bluray, and move...you probably will never use any of these, but they are there. However, it is unclear if the PS3 will support the new 128GB disks, even though it has already been shown to work with 2500GB disks.

The 360 only has natal and HD-DVD; Microsoft claims that no one wants bluray...so if you do want it, then you must not want Microsoft. It seems that the 360 will not be getting 3D...so if you want 3D gaming, the 360 is out.

In the end, it probably comes down to your friends...go with whatever platform they have. So far there are no good 3D games...and if you don't have a good TV, then 3D would not help you anyway.

I would hardly call the PS3 a casual system...that is more the Wii's territory...at least until PS Move and Kinect are released; then they will all be casual systems.

As for "getting cluster Fu&$ed every update"...I would not say that microsoft is any better in that respect.

Oh, and it isn't about loving or hating movies...it is about if you already have a bluray player, and if you even care about the improved video quality. If you are fine with DVDs, then the xbox360 is fine with video...maybe even better for video in some regards.

Oh, and PC is the best gaming platform; it is just that the gaming community attached to it is splintered and small; there is nothing like PSN or XboX live on the PC, other than a few services that only work with games from a specific publisher. Plus, in terms of FPS at given resolution per dollar, the PS3 and the 360 are much better values than buying or building a gaming PC.

I would say that Microsoft, are a lot better, they have never taken anything from my system with an update.

Where as Sony tried to disable the Other OS on my PS3.
