I've been out of the wii modding scene since about 2007 and my wii has just been sitting there so i would really appreciate an update whats new and what i can do, I've got the original wiikey and the released to play super Mario galaxy i think was 1.9b or something, is there anything i need to know that could brick the thing, things i cant do and is it safe to update the system with the Internet, is my wiikey crap, ect..?

please give me some help with this as i know the kind of post can be sometimes annoying and I've contribute with helping people crack there PSP, 360 and iPhone so i would like the favour returned.

thanks

Ah yes, These are things that you should never do!!

-Update to 4.3 via the internet (Until we can find a new modding method)
-Un-install any IOS under 200
-Update from games that aren't in your region

Also, should you update to 4.2, your wiikey will lose it's capability to play games that aren't in your region.

i take it the config disk can also be configured to stop auto updates?

anything else i need to know?

Do not update your Wii . Like 12137 said you will lose your out of region capability on your chip . If you want to play a game with updated ios you can always install it via wad .

You are a hard-mod user, so I take it you don't have any softmods. ( e.g The Homebrew Channel).

What new game are you getting? If you tell me I can tell you what update it has.

I've been reading up and i've been getting a better understanding,
I'm getting red steel 2 and the mario galaxy 2. i am a hard-mod user and i dont have any homebrew channels.

If i'm correct, As i am a Hard-Mod user the best thing for me to do update to 1.99 version for the wiikey and use the config disk to stop any game updates and stay at 3.4.

what are the main advantages of homebrew channels?

Software mods open up for more easy access to the machines software, like IOS's & WAD etc. I'm not a hardmod user so I cannot give a solid answer to your question, I'd probably get it wrong. If you had a softmod you could just install the IOS & play.
