Since IBM (unlike Apple, etc), is a IT giant that Microshaft doesn't have a financial interest in, a smart decision is being made.
I have had it with Microshaft's fight of making all of their garbage proprietary and forcing (look at any of about 100 lawsuits from all over the world) superior products and competition out of the market and NOT to adapt International standards.
What pisses me off the most of Microshaft. is how they intentionally attempt to kill standards (open source software as well). I think those days are finally ending with people being too smart to accept software that won't work because they are stuck on Windows and their intentional proprietary nonsense to make things like other hardware and software is defective.
For example, all browsers should accept the new HTML 5 standard. Multimedia is now a breeze and with the built in open source Opp Vorbis and Ogg Theora formats, it is excellent. The only issue is that Microshaft refuses to accept the W3 Internet International standards. Just like IE6 is not compatible to IE 7 which is not compatible with IE 8.
This is great news for all of us.

Firefox is now default browser for IBM IBM has announced today that the company is "moving to Firefox as its default browser," mainly because the browser is "stunningly standards compliant" and not "beholden to one commercial entity."
The giant corporation has about 400,000 employees so Mozilla is likely to see a small jump in market share over the coming months, as employees move to the browser at work, and then most likely back at home, as well.
Statcounter recently reported that Internet Explorer has 55 percent worldwide market share, with Firefox in second at 29 percent. Google's Chrome continues to see strong growth, but remains far behind at 8 percent.
When asked why the company-wide move, VP of open source and Linux Bob Sutor said: "Firefox is stunningly standards compliant, and interoperability via open standards is key to IBM's strategy. Firefox is open source and its development schedule is managed by a development community not beholden to one commercial entity. Firefox is secure and an international community of experts continues to develop and maintain it. Firefox is extensible and can be customized for particular applications and organizations, like IBM. Firefox is innovative and has forced the hand of browsers that came before and after it to add and improve speed and function."
Additionally, the tech company will "strongly encourage our vendors who have browser-based software to fully support Firefox."
Yeah, I use MozillaFirefox, on my IBM, on my HP, on my ACER, and every computer I have had since 1999. (Although I use IE to update security issues in my os)... But why would a "for profit" corporation use open source?
