HTC explains slow Android 2.2 Froyo rollout

HTC has explained this week why the company's phones are seeing a "slow" rollout of the upcoming Android 2.2 firmware update, going as far as to say that the Gingerbread 2.5/3.0 update may be pushed back until 2011.

What a load of crap...the final 2.2 is out; and the apps can always be improved later if you just add them to the market. HTC users have been using 2.2 for weeks now, and there really isn't any excuse to keep delaying at this point...especially some excuse about improving performance and reliability; HTC roms are always terrible; you really could write something that good (or better) in one day.

Really pissed that the Hero is EOL.
We have mostly complete froyo ROMs for the hero from the cookers but HTC isn't going to support it.
The phone isn't even a year old! They need to support their phones for the duration of a contract. That is the only way it will be fair.
Now I'm stuck with an EOL phone that I've had for only 3 months! >:|

This is the best part of having android...once it becomes EOL, it still has support from the community, and you can still get the latest releases within a couple weeks of release. Just think if apple made their devices EOL after 3 months...you would be up a creek without a paddle.

saying that HTC apps are garbage is just stupid everyone knows that SENSE is the most refine skin for android, and it widget are the most friendly as well... If you never use it just STF UP and everyone that use it won't even root the phone cause it will loose that.... Offcourse not everyone is the same and is good to have options

Their interface is nothing special. Try out a few custom ROMs and you will see what I mean.

Dude how is this any diffirent from me having a windows mobile phone that o2 only ever supported upto wm6.1, if i wanted 6.5 it was a custom rom build from xda dev's
Lucky i can run droid now :) Seriously man if you so worried your second gen device wont run the latest os incarnation head over to xda developers.
To be honest ive never relighed on manufactures roms or providers roms and have immediately installed cooked roms, simple fact they are always new builds as manufactures and providers as more concerned than shifting units then supporting the ones after they are sold... its a part of business.
That said xda devs was always a great place to discuss and get stuff for the windows mobile platform and despite is pit falls it did kindle a large pool of people together that wanted more out of their devices and found a goal in common.
Since Droid hit town things have gone mad, i love the fact that in retalitation to the fact microsofts ever on going promises of a better phone os we just got more hog ware which was released after lots of failed promisses about due dates. But thinks to some very clever people droids being back ported to most older get windows mobile devices.
So despite the fact im no longer even using the original os on my phone there is still a budding team of co-testers and developers happy to help.
Killers point is valid, if you want support look to the community and as long as some other mad people still have a device that works people will build and develope still. But if you cant be arsed to install a cooked rom its pointless to complain about EOL periods, thats how its always been.
As for sense ui, it is very pretty and is often intimidated, but i belive and my peronal love of it is purley just the time with the weather under it, which is why i run a cooked rom with a sensui imitation clock and use the droid virtual desk instead, as i can install what ever i need and removed what i dont want or need. Rhe rest of sense ui is useless for what i want so i dont run it.
So in a way your both right and have that in common.

I fail to even begin to comprehend how you managed to create an 8 paragraph reply to a sentence comprised of 4 words..i said bullshit about HTCs explanation.I have an old scratched beat up HTC Touch Diamond..I always used XDA roms cuz them idiots at HTC told me that something was wrong with my S/N so i couldnt upload the new sense UI from then so DLed a cooked room instead. HTC sucks when it comes to support

I have an HTC Desire, personally, I think it is the best smart phone i have owned. Whilst it would be nice to have 2.2 earlier, i would much prefer a fully tested system. Just look at the latest iphone! The only gripe I do have is my being restricted to what ROM I can install, as I purchased mine direct from Hong Kong.
