Best Buy does not fire employee behind iPhone 4, EVO 4G spoof ads

Last week, Best Buy employee Brian Maupin was suspended for posting viral videos spoofing iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G zealots.
The iPhone video is so popular it has topped 3.4 million views.
Best Buy suspended Maupin while they investigated the situation, although neither video directly names or even implies the retail giant. Maupin went as far as to say that he expected to be fired completely ... [ read the full article ]

I'd be suprised if he stays there long. With the publicity they didn't have a lot of choice but I doubt he is going to find things back to normal when he returns either...

My understanding was that it wasn't these 2 videos that got him suspended it was other videos (which he now took down) that talked about best buy in them. So my question is does anyone have a link to those videos?

Good for the guy, it be totally retarded if the guy got fired for something like this. I think the video is awesome, I personally like the EVO better because I got one now and had Iphone 3g before. I think he should make a video talking about the Iphone 4g's crappy antenna. Either way, his life probably won't be the same working @ Best Buy.

You must have never been to any of the bestbuy stores I have gone to. Their employees tend to be clueless morons. The fact that this guy could type probably put him in the top 1% of the people who are dumb enough to qualify for a job there.

lmao so true, my g/f's sisters b/f works at one and thinks that a Divx Player is useless cause blu-ray is better. i looked at him and didnt even respond, i just assumed it was better to leave him alone and check my tongue. its hard to not slap people who just dont know wtf they are talking about, and yet act as they do with such confidence. but it is a part-time no benefits besides a store discount kind of job, if they were all tech heads they'd be a really expensive store and no one would shop there to pay wages. so if you go to best buy without researching what you are going to buy first and what exactly you need and dont need its your own fault for listening to someone else just as uninformed as you.

Well, the key is to find that one guy that knows his stuff. At my local store if I can't find the big chubby guy with the pony tail, I return another day during the week. He has never let me down. He gives good advice.

LOL one of my friends got hired to Geek Squad. Then he tried to use that to say he knew more about computers than me. I then slapped him repeatedly in the face and made several vulgar jokes about what I do to his mom at night. A few days later I had to walk him through a Windows install and finding drivers, then a few days after that I had to replace his motherboard, RAM and CPU because he was trying to OC without any research at all and just cranked every setting to the maximum the board would allow.
Wish I could say I was joking but every word I just typed was true. Not even kidding :/
Well, except for the mom jokes but damn right I slapped him. Repeatedly.
Seriously though, this is a freedom of speech issue. He should be able to make any point he wants. I mean seriously, did Best Buy really suspend a worker and put money into an investigation over an amateur Youtube video? WTF?

Yeah, I agree, this is a Free Speech issue.
If they discovered he had made this video on company time with company computers then that's one thing. But that's not being alleged.
What I see is a guy saying some crap about an Iphone while being an employee at Best Buy. Best Buy has no say in this matter and he can criticize any and everything he so desires... INCLUDING BEST BUY!
Best Buy has no business dealing with this matter other than to protect their "good name"... There is no slander going on here so BB needs to just shut their hole and realize that had they actually fired this guy they would be the ones in serious trouble.

My last job a got laid off from had a yellow Caution Sign in the Clock room that said Check your Baggage at the door. i thought it was humorous in a way.

it depends on the device, what resolution you get. though if I'm not mistaken DVI has the highest bandwidth available for consumer grade equipment

Sadly, no he doesn't know enough to Google. He claims to be a genius computer wizz but he also thinks changing out your CPU is ultra advanced stuff and is nervous to do it...

LOL...that is the geeksquad I know. It seems like their goal is to make computer repair so expensive and problematic that you are better off just buying a new system. Oh, and just in case they do fix it, they will try to sell you on Norton antivirus in order to make sure you come back real soon.
