I am new to using my system for video and new to DVD Burning. I think that I read several previous post that stated that burning a DVD using ISO images fails on systems using HDs with a Fat 32 Partition. I may not have phrased that correctly but my question is, "Is this limitation accurate and dose it apply to systems using RAIDs." I am running Win 98 on a system with a AMD 1600XP Processer and 512MB of PC133 RAM installed. I recently added a 160 GB Stripe Array to speed the data transfer rate of the HD to the Burner as I experienced transfer rate problems when burning CDs some years ago. Then I had a single ATA 100 30GB HD and all else as stated above. I was told by a friend that my RAID decision was in error and that I needed a new system Yesterday, I successfully burned a copy of my MASK DVD using DVD Decryptor and Nero. I beleive I compiled TS files. I haven't kept up with recent advances in HW or SW and would appreciate any help before I waste more money on uninformed purchases. I want to use my system to backup DVDs and create DVDs for my family from the many DV tapes I have collecting dust. I have a lot of learning to do and wouild like help with a point in the right direction. Is my decision to create a RAID poor and what what upgrades are a good value to get a start. I have read many postsa and say, "Thanks very much for the information each of you have contributed - I have learned alot already."

Anyways, here's why people might have probl;ems with FAT32. FAT32 has a 4GB filesize limit wheras DVD-R's are 4.36GB a disc. So if you are making images then you might have a problem if it's over 4GB.
However, if you are backing up a movie, many of the programs most widely used in this process dont make images at the end of it, instead you get your AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder. Then you just go to Nero and burn your DVD from that.

I followed up on this but can't determine if Partition Magic 8.0 will do that even if I am using WIN 98SE or if I will need to install a different os to accomplish the change. Does anyone have experience with PartitionMagic running under WIN 98SE. Thanks Again Dela for browsing though the muddle I first posted.
just wanted to say i have been burning dvd's for years now on win98se on fat 32 and never had a file size problem.never understood why people get problems with it.
Thanks for the input jonnijon, My questions were prompted by a friend who remarked my system was not current enough to handle my new venture of making videos from our DVs and copying our DVDs. I did have a problem some time ago with the transfer rate of my hard drive not keeping up with my CD Burner but have not experienced this when burning DVDs from the RAID. Do you know if one is supposed to defrag a RAID - I got a, "Not enough memory," message when I attempted to Defrag mine yesterday. Thanks again, JV
Heres the difference. iso images is 1 file 4+GB, and video_ts files are mulitiple files totaling 4+GB. fat32 is limited to single files under 4GB. Jvwheel you can be sucessful in backing up, you just have to create video_ts files.
when it says not enogh mem to defrag...u need space cuz to defrag it moves the file around on the hardrives so everything is all arraingened and u need space so the files can be moved around..do u get it?
