I get a

"This original Xbox game is not supported on your Xbox 360 console. An update to support this game may be available. For more info, go to www.xbox.com/games.

version: 1.0"

error. What do I do? Should I update through Live? My Xbox 360 is modded. And it is a backup copy of a Xbox game.

Not all Xbox games are supported for the Xbox 360. If you have the latest dashboard (9199) and the game doesn't play, then I doubt it's supported.
