My husband has had a modded PSP (it's the older, fat version) for several years. He recently (month or so ago) updated the custom firmware. It worked fine. He played it yesterday with no issues. Today, it won't turn on, but the orange light will come on when it is plugged up to charge. No LCD screen, no noise, no nothing. Is this what happens when a PSP becomes bricked? If so, how can it be "unbricked." If it's not bricked, what else could be wrong with it? Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

well I think you have a bricked psp. Now this isnt as bad as it sounds it can be fixed. Now the method i use to un brick the psp requires a pandora battery and a magic memory stick you can make both or buy them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTt84uZ36Mc this is ware i learned how to make my magic memory stick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htgf1IqZGgo and this is for a pandora battery but if that battery doesnt look like yours then look on youtube or google how to make a pandora battery for a fat psp. now that you have that all done put the memory stick in first then the pandora battery. a menu should pop up. install 5.00 m33 firmware. after thats done you should have a working psp again. (notes) The firmware that will be installed will be 5.00 m33-4 so update to what ever you hade b4 the bricking. hope this helped

It's not a brick. It didn't happen while the firmware was updatet, it happened afterwards. Also if it was a brick the green light would come on when the PSP is switched on (which isn't a sign for a brick, even with some internal damages or water damages the green light might still come on, sometimes only for a few seconds). Your PSP has some internal damage, which is quite common these days, seeing that the PSP phat is about 7 years old by now and it's a sony product, which normally doesn't stand for great quality parts.
Also if it was a brick you wouldn't need to pandora it because you already were on custom firmware. You would just have to hold down and keep pressed the right shoulder button while powering the PSP up to enter recovery menue.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

it could be the power switch, the power board, or the power fuse which is located on the board close to the top, this is most likely the problem. bridging the power fuse will most likely get the unit to power up again.
