Xbox Live won't turn on, help!

please help, have two xbox live game systems and i plugged the old xbox live power cord into my new elite xbox console. worked for a few minutes and then turned off. now it won't come on at all. can anyone help?

Does the power cord still work in the old live, I mean the old 360? Because an old power brick should power the newer lives, I mean newer 360s.
