I have just purchased a second hand PSP 1000 (so im told) with firmware 3.03, would really like to know which custom firmware would be best to install for it to run backups of newer games such as God Of War and FIFA 10. I would really like to get the most out of this thing! Any help would be much appreciated.

Since your new to the psp scene, I recommend using the 5.00 M33-6 or 5.50 GEN, either way your going to have to patch your ISO's so that they can run since sony has put in place protection code to prevent it running on CFW.
O.K. thanks, but i'm not quite new to the scene, i used to have a japanese psp 1.50 with the works on it when they first came out, but it seems that quite a few things have changed since then. Will i have to update the official firmware beforehand or is this just a straight flash installation?

What he has not told you is that you will need a pandora battery and an MMS (magic memory stick)you cannot just flash to custom firmware from Official.
Or you could update your official firmware to 5.03 and use the chickhen method of installing custom firmware.
I would go to 5.00m33-6 as all new games have to be patched to work and 5.50Gen-D3 (the alternative) still has to be patched and is not as stable for running PS1 games and homebrew
Thanks for the help, I ended up updating to 5.00ofw, using the chick hen eggsploit (was quite tricky) and am now running 5.50GEN D-3.Works fine. Cheers guys.
