Bought 5 pack of TDK-RW media and have failed to get a successful outcome. 1st disk only formatted to 2GB and shortly thereafter became totally unusable (not recognized by my TDK 440N burner, or my Pioneer ROM player. 2nd RW formatted to the 4GB disk capacity, but when I burned 3.8 GB movie (using Roxio Drag to Disk), it took a very long time and the movie would not play (although Power DVD did open automatically). Using "View disk contents" appeared to show all movie VOB files etc. but when I tried "My Computer" the disk was either not recognized at all , or only 2.8 GB capacity seen. No probs using DVD-R media at all! Ritek, Fugi, even cheap stuff from CompUSA. No coasters using -R.
Is this a media problem, a burner problem, user problem or what?
TDK 440N firmware updated to 1.0A previosly. Please help!
I also bought a 5 pack or tdk dvd-rw media (2x) and used it to back up The Last Samurai. I tried burning with compressing, no compression on 2 discs, and special features. Everything works perfectly on my computer and on my 2 players (yamaha and pioneer). I dont use roxio drag to disc that came with my plextor 708 because the formatting it does it horrible. If you have Nero, use it, it is a much better program. What do you use to compress the movie. DVD-shrink is able to compress and burn a movie (with using Nero on its own) very well. Good luck.
Used Shrink and was able to remove extras, foriegn soundtracts, even credits so that no compression was necessary at all! The movie was below 4.3 GB and appeared to be written to disk (all vobs etc. )were there the first time I looked. However, it wouldn't play in either of two DVD drives; although Power DVD opened automatically, the movie did not play, and My Computer now only sees a 2.18 GB disc capacity with 0 free. Nothing was written to disk between the time 4.3 GB were recognized , till now only 2.18. What happened?
Using Roxio because already had PhotoSuite installed, which means the Roxio burning engine would still be there even if I deleted Easy CD & DVD Creator, which came with my TDK burner. With Win ME, must use somebodies packet writing software to write to RW discs and I wasn't having a prob with CD RW, only the DVD RW disks. I though TDK would be best for RW disk choice as same brand as burner and firmware is up to date. Should I try another brand? It gets expensive to buy five packs of different brands and then none work. Especially when DVR-R burning is going well on any brand.
Bad media, bad drives, or user error?
The media isnt bad. I actually like tdk dvd's second to verbatim, which i think are the best. Never had an error with them at any burn speed. I dont think its ur drive either(tdk burner should be fine with tdk discs). Maybe there are errors with the programs you are using, however, i also used shrink at one point and everything worked fine on the tdk dvd-rw. If you really dont want to lose any quality, put the movie onto 2 discs, keep the menu, and all the special features, dont use shrink. Even without compression, i found that shrink gave me worse quality on movies than other programs. The best programs to burn are AnyDVD and CLoneDVD2. You need both of these to backup copyrighted movies, but its so simple to use, and the quality is AWESOME on 2x burning onto my verbatim dvd+r 8x. First you open Anydvd to remove copyright and then open CLoneDVD2. I dont suggest going higher than 2-2.4x if you want to keep quality. I plan on buying Verbatim DataLifePlus dvd+r 2.4x because they last the longest and have the best durn reliability. So try burning with something else, and dont get other discs yet. Here is a link to get the trial versions of AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 for 30 days.
