So I work at Best Buy and we just got some of the new 4gb 360s. I was thinking about picking one up because it comes with built in wi-fi still. Which is nice because I thought they were gonna remove it on the arcade version. Anyways I just wanted to know if there is a way to put the hdd from my old 360 in it? Anyone tried to do this yet? I really don't wanna have to upgrade to the 250 just to keep all my stuff on there.
I haven't looked yet but I'm hopin I can just do that instead of getting the 250gig. Seems like a waste of money to me, plus I don't see why Microsoft would change it up and then have no solution for current users. Those fu@$#%s...
You do realize that if you put a smaller drive then 250gig on a new system, they'll know you 'tampered' with the drive. Your setting yourself up for a banning if you ask me.
Na, they really don't ban for upgrading the HDD. Even if it wasn't officially theirs. If you check this video360 Slim Unboxing, at 3:06, the show where the HDD on the slim is. It's just a small enclosure you pull out of the bottom of the 360.
ffocus06, unless your drive is a 250GB, I don't think you will be able to just swap the drives, just because this 360 was made for 250, and if you put in a 60 or 120 it may not know what it is, or even format it. They do however sell the transfer kits now at stores, so you can just use that to transfer data.
Hopefully if the HDD is anything like the old Xbox 360, upgrading wouldn't be that hard. All you need to do is get the same drive brand that M$ uses (which was for the 120GB WD1200BEVS), and grab the firmware M$ uses, and flash the drive with that firmware.
