i have the hitatchi drive and my laptop comes with a built in esata port. i have found this web ad for the cable i think i need just want someone to tell me im right before i purchase it.

I'm not exactly sure if you can use the esata port, but I'm pretty sure you can't. You need to hook it up to a sata port on the motherboard or a pci board that has the right chipset. Any sata cable will work though.
