I am incredibly wary about posting here. I mean, you guys are awesome, and helpful, but you're pretty scathing if something has already been answered or not enough info is provided.

I have scoured the forums for answers to my questions, and I answered all of them except for this last issue. I followed the xvid avi to dvd guide. I produced 4 vobs and proper ifo's and everything runs beautifully, with custom-formatted subtitles in powerDVD from my hd. I used Nero 6.3.1.6 to burn through my Plextor PX-708A to a Memorex 4x DVD+R. Here are my problems:

- Video and audio play on my Sony DVP-NS575P, and when I press the subtitle button, my player tells me I'm looking at the subtitles I encoded with the dvd, but no subs show on the screen.
- Also while watching on the Sony, every 4-5 minutes the movie will back up about 3 seconds and play out. This might be completely related to encoding to m2v and codecs installed on machine, which I can try to reinstall, or it could be poor quality media - i bought my media before reading here, will be switching to DVD-RW until I get the hang of this rather shortly, probably Verbatim.
- If I place the DVD back in my Plextor drive, and run it through PowerDVD, all is well, subtitles can be viewed, none of that weird random 3-second looping.

So, I know that the subtitles are on the disc, and can be read, but for some reason my brand new Sony player that can read all manner of burned DVD's won't display the subs. I've found topics where people ask similar questions and either post that they've figured it out, or are never even answered. I've tried getting in touch with those who have figured it out, to no avail. Any info you have for me would be helpful. I know quite a bit about computers, and I'd be willing to sit on this thread trying to work through issue if someone has the time. Thank you,
