Garmin has announced they are recalling 1.25 million GPS devices due to potential fire hazards from overheating batteries. I thought these guys were one of the top range brands?? Go figure...

Nuvi model numbers 200W, 250W, 260W, and 7xx ... but not all of them.. if you have one of those model numbers check at there site at https://my.garmin.com/rma/recallLanding.faces where you have to enter your serial number to see if your affected.

The batteries are the problem. A third party supplied the batteries, Garmin doesn't make them.

And in my experience with Garmin GPS units they are one of the top brands.

I'm not being funny, but even if Garmin made the batteries how would this show them to be a crap brand? Because they made one screw up? Damn man.

And if any thing, it actually shows them to be a good brand (and it's also likely they dont want their arses sued) by going out and making the effort to stop any potential harm and issues and looking after their customers as an aftersale service...
