the on-going debate on whats the best, somebody in some point in time decided that verbatim was the best, and the word spread and so now everyone is under the assumption that they are the best, and with due respect the statements are most likely true. with that being said i know that where i live the choice of buying media is slim, you kind of have to take what you can get, now this leads me to this as a person that has been burning for over 10 years i have went through a lot of media, what i look at now is just the id of the disc i'm burning, for example "Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67'' this is the id of a verbatim disc that came from a spindle i just bought from SUPERMEDIASTORE.com it was a cake box of hub printable verbatim 2.4x as you can see by the id this is not verbatim media it is Ritek media which is considered in the media world as 2nd class media. luckily for you Sony is ranked in 1st class media. Now there are also debate about using cheap media can be bad on your laser, as far as the burn of the media that is not so, but if the surface of the media is imperfect that could cause ill effects on your laser. so i would say if you are like me and in a pinch buy the sony media its not going to have any ill effects on your xbox, you may throw a few away and you may not, Good Luck!

Sony is not the 1st class media....any one in the tech industry will tell you that. Verbatim is the highest quality media and one person who has ACTUALLY been burning games for any period of time will tell you this.
Just to prove you wrong. have you or any one else ever noticed that you can't always put that 700mb, 4.5gb or 8gb on the disk? that is due to imperfections in the media. with a verbatim you can get closer to the max. where others fail. Most you can put on most disks is roughly 10mb to 50mb from the max depending on the disk size. verbatims can't max but you can get closer to the max and can always put the same amount of data on one disk as you can the next.

http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm i would only suggest that you read this article as far as how sony is classed in the media world, these studies are done by professionals with professional equipment, as i stated the debate that verbatim is the best is hard to deny, using other media is only going to result in more failed burns. i remember 10 years ago that Taiyo Yuden was considered the very best media you could buy, and it was undisputed, but the price tag was so high at that time nobody could afford to buy them. Good Rule of Thumb you get what you pay for in most circumstances. i personally believe that the praise from the xbox community for verbatim has aided in increasing the prices, because not too many years back they were a lot cheaper than they are now.

looked over and read the link all the way. Still just because they say it is first class media any one on this forum from EXPERIENCE will tell you verbatims are still top notch. I use verbs and only two coasters from user error (forgot layer break). After i got the process down i did try sonys and only 3 or 4 out of 10 burned correctly 2 of which did not even burn past 20%. actually i take that back i did get one bad burn with a verb out of like 35 disks but the disk still would boot the game just glitched up at a certain point in the story.

well as stated in that article different media works better with different burners, that is another debate all together on which is actually best. i bought a plextor about 8 years ago because they were supposed to be the best, i will admit i have burnt most media without to many coasters. memorex i average about 3 coasters per 20 discs. verbatim maybe one and as you stated it was at the layer break. i also have a pioneer that burns most media very well.

yes a burner affects how well you burn but that goes back to media in most cases. crap media shows when you burn with a random burner but usually burns very well with verbs
