I use PlayTV so my PS3 is often automatically going from standby to on when it records a programme. My problem with this is that say I am watching a DVD on my DVD player, or playing on my Xbox, the TV will automatically turn over to the PS3 HDMI channel as it is detecting that the device has been switched on. This is getting frustrating especially when I am playing xbox.

Would this be an issue with the TV or the PS3? I am checking on here in case anybody knows how to tell the PS3 to stop doing this (if possible) or is it just a TV setting? I have looked in my TV settings and cannot find an option to deactivate this. Pisses me off I don't need it to automatically switch over I have a button on my remote that I am capable of pressing for when I want to go to HDMI.

It's a feature called HDMI control/Bravia Sync that is enabled/disabled in the settings. Simple fix really. I personally like it because if I am going to use my PS3 no matter if even the tv is off when I hit the PS button on my DS3 it will automatically turn the TV on, put it in the correct input and turn on my surround sound AND put it in it's correct mode...all with one button press. But I could understand that with PlayTV it could be a bit annoying.

Thanks for the link but I'm not using a Sony TV. Looking at the link it says "functions available on the PS3 system" which regards the auto switchover to HDMI- but it doesnt tell me how to switch it off! I have had a look on the PS3 menu setting and cannot find it. Any ideas? As its getting to a point where Im going to have to move my PS3 into the main TV room as it is interrupting me on pretty much an hourly basis. Moving it into there will just mean Ill have no time to play on it as others want to watch the TV. £300 well spent eh

What brand TV is it? My Samsung has a feature that does what your describing. You may have to find this in your TV and switch it off.

It doesn't have to be a Sony TV to be compatible with this feature. You have to disable HDMI Control (a universal setting for all TV's compatible) in the PS3 settings and possibly confirm/change the settings on your TV as well...though I would believe once you change the PS3's setting that should be sufficient.

No as this wouldn't solve the problem. As stated it is because I am using PlayTV to record TV, which causes the PS3 to switch on. If I unplugged the HDMI then PlayTV doesn't work, so thats as much an option as just binning the PlayTV altogether.

Ok thanks. Any idea where this is on the PS3 dashboard? I have looked through everything in the terribly disorganised PS3 menu.

Bloody Technika. No me neither. It seems to be the same TV as a number of other brands, my father has a Hitachi TV that is exactly the same (remote, interface EPG etc) only difference is the aesthetics such as brand name at the bottom.

Dude I dont think that menu system could be any easier to understand.
Check:
:SETTINGS
>:SYSTEM SETTINGS
>>:CONTROL FOR HDMI ( TURN IT OFF )

I dont know whether PLAY overrides this in some way but that should sort you out.

Good luck with it and RTFM.

Does RTFM mean "Read The Fupping Manual"? I don't have a manual. And I had already found the "Control For HDMI" setting prior to posting this question, but it is already set to off yet my TV still turns over. I'm pretty sure the "Control for HDMI" relates to something else, when reading the description below it doesn't refer to automatically switching the TV over.

Hey again, Im prety sure it does. When mine is off the TV doesnt turn on and vice versa(im pretty sure if you have a Sony amp is will fire that as well).
There is the online, manual under networks I think as well as just a google search for it. Yeah dont get me wrong I had to do a search to figure out how to save a cd to the PS hard drive which when you dont know it seems like calculus and when you do seems obvious. Anyway Id check the PLAY forums or manual if youve got access to it because its bound to be an option thing. For sure SONY will think if you want to watch tv through PS3 and you have an approppriate TV one button will do the whole thing for you. And yeah with the exception of the word? fupping your on the money LOL.
Good luck with it.

Since you have confirmed that the "Control for HDMI" on your PS is set to "Off" then it sounds like the only plausible explanation/reason would be that there is an option within the TV that is handling the input change when it receives the signal that the PS3 has been turned on. Again ~ hope this helps. GL.

Edit: Just found this bit of info about something similar IF you have a Samsung TV ~

Quote:
The game consoles and the Samsung television both have CEC, but they are not the same - or necessarily compatible - versions of CEC......you may want to turn off the Anynet+ and game console CEC to avoid the problem in the future.
