I've been watching AVI's on my 360 for a year and all of a sudden when I try to now, it says I have to download a codec (like I said, I had it before), so I try to sign into Live, and it won't connect, it gives me this error:
W: 0000-000B
X: 4000-1001
Y: 0000-0000
Z: 0000-0000
ID: FFFF-FFFF

It doesn't say anything about being banned, and why would the console all of a sudden not be able to play AVI's even if I was banned???

Any ideas?

You have to be connected to live for the AVI codec to work. Dumb I know, but fix your connection and it should work

My connection is fine, I'm using the same connection right now. I take the ethernet cord out of my wireless router and plug it in the back of the 360, which has worked many times before, but it still will not work.

Once you pull it out, you must reset your router. Pull the power plug, then plug it back in.

If this box is not the original box you first downloaded the movie player function, try doing a rights transfer on xbox.com and then delete the original file and then re-download the file. You shouldn't need to be online after that to play videos. It's the same as a game download, you don't need to be online if you're on the original box it was first downloaded.

Blatantly False. No connection is required for the media update to work.

It didn't work when he couldn't connect to live and worked when he fixed his connection, so ya kinda seems like a connection is required. Personally it's always made me connect to live to get it to play, but then again maybe that had something to do with the fact that I use tversity and uShare to stream avi files, so perhaps you're right a connection isn't needed in *all* situations. Either way it wasn't "blatant"...not like I intentionally lied to the guy or something lol...
