LG shows off 3D OLED TV and 180-inch Plasma HDTV

LG has announced that it will showoff a 2.9mm 3D OLED TV at the IFA 2010 event starting on September 3rd, claiming it is the world's thinnest OLED to date.
There were little other details available about the TV.
The TV will indeed be the thinnest in the world, unless Samsung unveils a thinner one during the event.

Yeah.........see how LG 'conveniently' left out the prices and size of the OLED??
Lemme guess.........a 12" OLED that's a bit less than Sony's at 2000 bucks and 180" plasma like 79000.00 bucks. GO BLOW LG
Their electronics are run-of-the-mill at best. Smart consumers that aren't cheap would only buy their fridges and kitchen appliances. Anything else is unwise as it will likely break or be discontinued.
Also, has anyone seen the Sony OLED 10 incher ??? Any thinner than that is just bragging and a complete waste of resources.

Notice how they conveniently forgot the size of this screen? Unless the diagonal display distance is only 2.9MM, in which case 3D would by very hard to see. Show me a 32" OLED screen for under $400 and I might care (as for 3D, I couldn't care less).
As for the giant plasma, I think I might have to buy a new house in order to put the couch far enough away that it did not cause eye strain!

You must have either not read the article or you miss the words "IFA 2010 event" and "prototype".
Anyone with common sense would know that these are not meant for consumer production yet.

Regardless, is it glasses free? lol They never said, but honestly it wouldn't matter; a big ass screen that big for 3D will not be sold to the common household.

The thinner they are the cheaper they are to make, and the cheaper they are to make means they can price gouge even further.
i'm sorry but paper thin isn't a pro.

They are cheaper in terms of materials...but an OLED is still extremely expensive to make. Maybe not as expensive as what they charge, but very expensive. Personally I don't see much advantage...they say that they look a lot better, but then they always compare the best OLED to some bottom-end LCD from 5 years ago. Personally, I can't see the difference between a 40" LG LCD and a 10" Sony OLED, other than the size and the lower price on the LG.

I have a 60in wide screen HDTV in my front room and a 55in wide screen HDTV in my bedroom and that is plenty large enough for me. I mean my God...why would anyone want a 15 FOOT wide TV??? The ONLY use for something like that would be in a game room and it would have to have it's own wall with nothing close to it.
And I bet the price of the TV will be well over $15,000. American. So sorry LG, I will stick with my 1850.00 60in wide screen HDTV and use that 15K plus for something more important, like paying off my house note or as a down payment for a new car.

Why is no one excited by a 180" TV! stop thinking so practical! It's hilarious! No one would ever drive a ferrari at top speed? yet people have them? XD I think it's great! It's supposed to show that technology has reached a certain stage, they're not trying to SELL you a 180" tele! XD

Prototype is a precurser to public releases. Why don't you know this? It's 'purchasable' by some and will be available to a select few that are capable of popping the likely 79000 dollars so pipe down kiddie.
As for the OLED......practicality states that if they are developing one AS DID SONY, then AS DID SONY, they will likely compete in the retail market. Use your head and think outside the box...........but if you're a typical IT nerd then that box is probably very small.
Besides, estimated value is not uncommon for manufacturers to reveal.
