Upgrade to Freeboot after HDD crash

So recently my 1TB HDD broke after it bounced off the pavement a few time (Weird I know) And so while I'm getting it replaced I have ripped out my original MS 20gb HDD. What I would like to know is

1) What is it called when you just have the normal dash on? (XBR??)
2) What is the easiest way to put freeboot on without a DVD drive? I originally used xex menu then installed freeboot with the thumbdrive. will that still work if I don't have a dvd drive, or xexmenu installed?
3)On my last HDD I had freeboot with the 9199 dash I noticed that I still got an error that I needed to update my dash when I tried to play some games (Toy Soldiers comes to mind) is there something else that I need to do?

I'm pretty fluent in the google search engine, so even just answering question 1 I will be able to know the rest with a few searches.

You have a lot of research to do. XBR is not the orig dash. What are you running now? Your thread doesn't make much sense. If your kernel is 9199, you are already running freeboot. Updates are game updates, do them. Changing hard drives does not require you to do anything with freeboot or xbr. Just reinstall freestyle (which is maybe what you mean???)

kernal use to be using freeboot with the 9199 now the drive crashed and i'[m starting over with just the jtag and a 20 gb formatted drive. xbr was a guess thats why it was in parentheusies

again, you're lost. Drive has nothing to do with jtag. The software stores there, you don't have to rejtag anything. Just put freestyle on the new drive. If you are running 9199 kernel you are already on freeboot. That is a flash on the motherboard nand, not drive.
