Toshiba recalling 41,000 notebooks

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for 41,000 Toshiba notebooks this week, following reports that some are overheating or even melting. Before the official mandate, Toshiba posted its own recall of the Satellite T130 notebook. How the hell could a BIOS update fix a faulty DC-in harness?

It does not; it simply turns off external power so you can't charge anymore...thus eliminating the physical danger, but making the laptop useless in about 1-2 hours.

I've got the Satellite Pro L300 and very pleased mine isn't on that list. I have it plugged into the mains 24/7, and adapter is only slightly warm.

Toshiba do very good notebooks (a few friends have them as backup to their PC); your very unlucky if you were on that list. Saying that, it should never happen in the first place and compensate people.
