Just wondering, I have a Hitachi drive, and a lite-on 7 series drive... Both drives work fine, but I've read about Hitachi's reliability, and was wondering how hard it would be to spoof the lite-on as a Hitachi? Would I need to cut traces on the lite-on? I've never dealt with a hitachi before, and could use some advice on pulling up the key in JF... do I still need to use slax to get it into mode B?
You only need to cut the traces to get the full dump which you should do to keep the laser calibration. Then you spoof. Really no need to until the Hitachi stops reading.

If you want to put the liteon key onto the hitachi for backup you'll have to do the cuts to read the firmware. If you want to only put the hitachi key on the liteon no cuts are required.
Read the firmware for the hitachi, connect the liteon and put it in vendor mode, load the hitachi as the source firmware and Liteon iXtreme LT as the target, then click spoof source to target, which will then copy the key over and basically say Orig: Liteon spoofed as hitachi. Then just write and you're good to go. I've heard that spoofing LT for the liteon doesn't work but I got it to spoof a benq LT before so I dunno. If it wont let you spoof LT you can use an earlier iXtreme or the stock firmware
