what kind of xbox 360 drive do you have, and what firmware is on it? Sounds like your drive is not reading the disks properly.. could be your laser is going out.

Open tray is a common error, especially with burned discs. Try burning at a slower speed (2x) and using better discs like Verbatim. Failing that, yes your laser may be going out. You can try cleaning and doing a pot calibration on the laser itself, replacing the laser, or replacing the drive altogether for a benq or liteon.
Also don't make more than 1 thread for the same topic.

If you've burned & played the game, then obviously your system has been flashed. If you don't know what drive you have, and what firmware is on it, then I'll assume you didn't flash it yourself. You can find out what drive you have by pulling off the faceplate and looking at what colour the wires are thru a small hole in the front of the drive. Google jungle flasher pdf, and it will explain the difference in drives, and what to look for.
It could also be the brand of disk your using.. whats the make of dual layer disk are you using to burn your games?

i believe i have a benq drive with the recognition that disc tray is without any holes and without any 90 degree angles, that is the center is cut into a clean ''U'' shape!!

You recently bought the system but it came flashed, so it was used and it's entirely possible the laser is going bad. If you have no access to Verbatims you can always order them online but if you don't want to do that Memorex discs on a 2x burn is your best option. If that fails, try cleaning and doing a pot calibration. If that doesn't work you'll have to replace the laser or drive altogether.
If you're having troubles reading though the RW's aren't going to help the situation, they use a different kind of dye so they can rewrite but it's harder for the laser to read

soooo..... are you burning your own games? or are you buying them from some local dealer?? I don't know if your drive is "strong enough" or not... best thing you can do is make sure the firmware of your PC drive is up to date IF your burning your own games.

I didn't even know they made a dual layer RW... i would probably stay away from those... It sounds like your either going to have to get more info from the person you bought your system from, or open your system up yourself, and check the firmware on the drive by connecting it to the pc.... at that point you may want to re-flash the drive with the NEWEST firmware so that it will play all games.
if thats too complicated for you, you should check around to see if someone can flash it for you for a fee....

He said he played mafia 2 though so he's got to have a newer firmware. My guess is he's doing something wrong for the burn. I'd think it was burning the iso file instead of the .dvd file but I think that gives you a different error message. Perhaps burning at max speed instead of 2x
