on their website it says
Quote:
Backup games to your internal hard drive or external hard drive through USB, and boot directly off GUI
does this mean i would need a 40+gb usb flash drive?

This means you can either install them to the internal HDD or into an external HDD via USB, I recommend using the internal HDD since most games are over 4gb and backup manager only supports fat formated external HDD, but fat has limitations, you can't format anything over 4gb. So it will be useless to have an external drive bigger than 4gb. The only way to use all 40gb would be to format the drive as NTFS, but its currently NOT SUPPORTED.

hello, i decided to try psfreedom (ps3 jailbreak) on my ps3 today, using the htc hd2 port.

i got the hack to work, also installed the backup manager. the problem is i used a 256mb flash drive to install backup manager, i tried installing madden 09 and i realised it was installing on my flashdrive, obviously theres not enough space i got an error, then restart. after restart i lost the "install package" option including the folder above that was also created after jailbreak. backup manager remained, when try to load i get error. so i also deleted backup manAger. i tried reinstalling the hack but i dont see the folders after i redo hack. please if anyone can help

please let me know.
thanks in advance.

OK from what i understand you booted up with ps3freedom installed the backup manager and when you tried to backup madden 09 its start to install on your usb stick as the external drive so you restarted you console. Now when the console is restarted without using the ps3freedom hack the backupmanager will still show up but it won't be usable and will give you an error when you try to run it. Every time you want to play your backups you have to do the ps3 freedom trick, so since you already did it instead of restart you must completely power off the ps3 again and then press power and eject quickly after.Just restarting and trying to do this will not work.

Hope this helps

You have to power cycle the PS3, or the hack won't work.

Yes you have to do it everytime. I don't no if you have a ps3 fat or slim but if you have a slim you have to pull the plug from the back to repeat the hack process again and if you have a fat you have to turn off the power switch in the back to start the process again everytime when you want to use the jailbreak.

Exactly, your going to need a USB MicroController
PSGroove

This is the PSGroove, an open-source reimplementation of the psjailbreak exploit for AT90USB and related microcontrollers.

It should work on:

AT90USB162
AT90USB646
AT90USB647
AT90USB1286
AT90USB1287
ATMEGA32U4
... and maybe more.

This software is not intended to enable piracy, and such features have been disabled. This software is intended to allow the execution of unsigned third-party apps and games on the PS3.

This reply is somewhat incorrect, as yes most ps3 games are well over 4gb however when backing up the game to the external the game is divided into hundreds of pieces usually under 4gb. For example "Resident Evil 5 [PAL][PS3" is cut into 899 files all well under 4gb. if you have a iso of the game as a whole you can download "PS3 iSO2JB v0.5" so you can convert PS3 iSO Files to PS JailBreak Format cut into hundreds of files. You can get it here.

ps.. "hitman" please stick to the topic as this forum went way off topic and took a 360

Actually, I think that the 4GB limit was a defect in the first version of the backup manager, as the games actually are saved as files over 4GB in many cases. However, the new backup manager claims NTFS support, so this should not be an issue.

Still better to install to the internal drive, as games will load faster.

...Afraid I have not tried the hack myself yet; a bit worried about doing anything hack-related to the console while I am still in litigation against sony...and I am also waiting for a CFW, or at least a hacked sony firmware that supports PSN.

I thought "PS3 iSO2JB" turned out to be crap and fake, guess it's not.

god, I'm sorry, do you guys understand anything with IT?

Seriously, how did you all make it this far, and not know much?

FAT32 drives have only a 4 gig file size limit. Therefore, any single file that is over 4 gigs will cause an error within the fat32 file system.

Anything over 4 gigs is required to be on the internal drive...

Lets try to think things over before we answer.

I would say it is incredibly important to stress this fact
