Hey guys just felt like throwing this question out there, now that an exploit has been found and a lot of Devs are now working on the scene do you think that we will be seeing custom firmware anytime soon that will be able to run the psfreedom code by default? I remember geohot telling people once upon a time not to update because he was going to create a CFW but that never happened. So what do you guys think?

Possible? Yes...anything is possible. A scientific mind never says never.
Likely? Yes...I think we will see CFW for the PS3 in the future.
Timetable? That is the big question. It won't be an easy task, and very few people currently have the knowledge required to start on such a project. Also, Sony will keep messing with the firmware, the PSN, and the games themselves to keep CFW projects from getting very far. It is possible that we will not see a CFW until the PS4 is on the market...that is only about 2 years away.

I don't think the mountpoints still apply after the drive is removed. But even if they did, it is hardly a CFW. A CFW would have new features and capabilities programmed into it, linux support, maybe even ps2 support on slims.

Alot of developers are talking about making a kernel to replace the GameOS, which is in LV2, this new kernel would most likely be opensource and linux based. Some of the features they hope to have are full control of RSX Chip, PS1, PS2, PSP emulation, thus being able to create 100% homebrew via the OPENSDK for the PSP, that way they don't have to use leaked Sony SDK's. Nothing for sure yet, just small talk and chit-chat.

If it is linux-based, then the SDKs already exist; they may need slight modification, but open source makes this very easy.
