I have a 360 that i cant figure out the problem with. I have fixed 3 other 360s with the red ring of death using the penny fix, and the x clamp fix, however the one I have tried to fix now, doesnt seem to want to work. Its my friends and he said it works but it sometimes has the 3 red lights come on so I was like ill fix it. I take it apart, try the penny fix like the other ones I have fixed, I put it back together and go to turn it on, it has 3 red rings, but the wierd thing is it doesnt even sound like it wanting to start up. as soon as you press the power button, instantly the red lights come, it doesnt even start up, the fans turn on for a split second,,, nothing seems to boot up inside the xbox. I need some help????

What is your secondary error code? We need more information in order to guide you in the right direction. The penny fix warps the motherboard even further. The pennys cause the board to flex in an unnatural way. It's usually a temporary fix. A reflow is the best way to fix most (not all) of the 360 RROD errors.

Seconded what BillB said. Penny fix is no good and doesn't solve the root issue of the RRoD, broken solder. Might be enough to push the solder together to get it to work but oxidation will get in the crack and make it harder to fix permanently (or at all)

Well now it's not a broken solder issue since the fans wont even turn on, it's likely a short circuit somewhere. I'd remove the penny fix first, and then check to see if you can find anywhere else where metal might be touching that it shouldn't be. Commonly when it's individuals attempting to repair it can be the tabs around the connectors being bent in and touching something when you go to replace the motherboard. I've also seen the USB connectors being bent in because he put a thumbdrive in upside down.

As far as the error code what he means is when the RRoD comes on you can hold down the sync button and push eject 4 times and those numbers are your secondary error code that gives you a better idea of what the problem can be.
