According to the latest figures from Android Developers, 2.2 Froyo has quickly taken a large chunk of the distribution of Android devices.
While still in the clear lead, Android 2.1 has fallen to 41.7 percent of the distribution, while 2.2 has jumped to 28.7 percent.
The strong jump is thanks to the release of the Droid 2, and updates to the EVO 4G, Moto Droid and HTC Incredible.

Yeah i think the main reason for that is due to older devices that wont get the 2.2 ota, however im betting probably half the people running 1.5 or 1.6 will use a hacked rom and get 2.2 other ways, which really is never considered in these figures.
Obviously hacked roms don't figure into these numbers; many people are still using cooked 2.0.1 roms...but that does not help the average end user who thinks that "Root" is the part of "Tree" that is underground.
