My Grandaughter bought DVD STAND BY ME in London recently. Only problem it is Region 2 and PAL format.
Will not play on her DVD player of course.

Can I change the RC and Format so I can back it up to a disc that will play in her player?

I am a complete newbie but Grandaughter will love me if anyone can make me appear real smart.

Hi TMcCallie,

DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink can make a region-free copy of the DVD, but the copy won't play in a NTSC player anyway.

Converting to PAL is not an easy job. I never did it myself, but I saw a few threads where people reported some success with NVE (NeroVision Express, included in Nero 6).

If you go the NVE way, be aware that:
1) you'll lose the menus;
2) you'll have to keep one language only;
3) the image quality will suffer a significant loss because NVE will re-encode the video (and NVE is definitely not the best MPEG2 encoder around).

Cheers,

Daba
